Help deciding - Sub or Yacht-Master?
Deciding on my first Rolex. Narrowed it down to pre-ceramic Sub or a Yacht-Master.
I know the decision is mine and I'll make it on my own, but have researched, given much consideration, held, tried on & fondled both models (and others that have been eliminated) and am at an impasse. This shouldn't be a Ford/Chevy discussion, but honest consideration of using it as an 80% daily wear with casual business attire. Sub: its versatile and looks great with leather and rubber bands. Its pure classic. Goes with casual business/suits/casual. No real downside. Yacht-Master: Same design just more formal/subtle. I like the platinum, it adds distinction to classic design. May not dress down as much as a sub but I have other good black faced watches (though none are as classic as a sub). Not much flexibility in band options - at least I haven't seen them combing through these post for months now. Thanks so much! -Robb |

As you say, the decision is yours, but for me - definitely the Sub! I have a 16610 and love it - wear it with everything from suits to T shirts. Good luck with your decision!

Sub ... with the brushed center links, and the ceramic bezel, it'll likely stay looking pristine for longer if it's going to be a daily wearer.

Both! Although maybe a slight advantage to the classic Sub for being more versatile.

IMO, it's Sub for the classic Rolex. Or, if unique is what you seek, YM!

Sub! Something about the YM that turns me off. But your money and your wrist, so do what makes you happy.

I would choose the Sub any day... I have owned a couple YM's and they always look great in pics and on everyone else it just doesnt seem to fit me or my style. At the end of the day it is your decision but you can never go wrong with a Sub.
Also worth nothing the resale out of the two is not even comparable... Resale on the YM is awful if you ever do decide to sell/flip... Adam

Most YMs don't do it for me but I love my Sub. As your first watch I'd start with the icon and go from there down the road.

you can never go wrong w/ a Sub it is very popular for a reason & is a great all around watch. If you want something less common then you may want to consider the YM

I think you'll find the YM doesn't get a lot of love here. The Sub is iconic Rolex but the YM is a super comfortable watch to wear, more so than the Sub. Make sure you try both of them on your wrist before deciding.

Both
tough choice but here are my thoughts. my Sub is like my first born. Ill never part with it. im a jean wearing person and the sub fits the bill. to me everyone needs to own the Submariner... everyone that said. when i put on the YM either for dinner with the wife or just knocking around on the weekend it feels rich. its a different kind of feeling. I find myself staring at it more in the wild then my sub.. from driving to pouring a cup of coffee at wawa i find myself looking at it. my sub i put it on and forget about it.(it is what it is) also jeans and a tee work great(its class with a statement). I call it the watch that looks different depending where i am. sometimes it sparkles other time it has a slight pinkish glow. besides maybe an EXP2 (white) or a Datejust its really the only two right now i care to own. I also have great hopes for a bluesy YM again its a tough choice and only one you can make. id look used from a seller here. spend 6,000 on a YM and youll never lose your money. same with a sub only youll spend less... good luck- |

I'd go ym. Love the sub, have a lvc, but I like that the ym is relatively obscure. My old man wears one and it looks stunning.

Both are great. But if you are looking for an everyday'er, I'd go with the Sub. Like you said, there are many options for a Sub that the YM just doesn't have. You also said you have other fine Black dial watches. You got quite a toughie on your hands.
