Uniforms and Rolexes

Any cops wear theirs on-duty? Military? Fire? I work in public safety and want to wear mine all the time but am terrified of the day it explodes against a wall, the ground, anywhere...! Anybody out there keep theirs on in hazardous conditions?

I wear a Submariner 14064M on duty, but try to leave it in the patrol car if dispatched to a hazardous call. So far so good

When I was a cop I would never had worn my Rolex while on duty. I can't tell you the watches I went through in 20 yrs.

I soldiered with a tt GMT thru Ranger School, Jungle School, 5 years with the 101st, etc. and never gave it a thought. Gave that watch to a son about 3 years ago, and I'm still impressed when I see that 38 year old watch on his wrist. I have two sons soldiering with the ExpII's I gave them. When I was in, I had a plt sgt, later 1st sgt, who had spent 4 tours in VN and wore a DD for everyday wear. Unless people are shooting you in the wrist, a lot, I wouldn't worry about a Rolex.

For those who do wear a Rolex on duty - do you use an alternative strap/band? Like a NATO, Zulu or other?

I did 35 years in police work and wore my TT GMT everyday. No problem.

My father wore his on-duty for the past 22 years, still does! It has a few dings, and he had to replace the original ellipsoid jubilee band for the D shaped jubilee band a few years ago, but otherwise, it's in fantastic shape (though, his was a 14k gold, before they used 18k gold, so I have to assume that helped greatly in the durability department)!

Picked my 14060M in April, I had the same thoughts as you. I never take it off. I paid way too much money not to wear the hell out of it.

When I was a police officer in patrol, I wore Citizen Aqualand but when I worked in investigation unit, I had my GMT 16700. But that was almost 15 years ago...

I am currently out in a hot desert country and my explorer is ticking away 24/7 happy as a pig in mud. She lights up my bed space with her lume.

I'm not in patrol but I do wear mine every day as an LEO. I take it off before an arrest, training, etc.

I wear my Breitling or Explorer II everyday with my flight suit in clinic or in the helo. If I am doing a rescue diver training evolution I might put on my Sub so as not to ruin the leather on my Breitling. I have not been deployed but if I were in a combat zone, my Submariner would come with me as it has the most meaning to me.

I'm an LEO and wear my sub lv everyday on patrol. I used a nato for a while but have it on the oyster band now. I wore a 14060m all four years as an infantry grunt in the Marines with no problem either......people pamper watches too much, wear and enjoy.

Why wear it during those hazardous times some may ask....and my reasoning is it makes me happy and brightens my day to see the crown on my wrist,so it's worth the risk.

That is fantastic all! Thank you for the replies. I have a 16570 and got it for work. It's hard to keep it on sometime but now that I know I'm not the only one crazy enough to do so it gives me hope it will survive.

I used to wear a Seiko SKX173 with a Zulu strap on duty, then I started wearing my Tag 2000 Professional Series. This is what I currently wear.

A friend at work wears his Sub on duty (16610)

My brand new Sub C is my only Rolex, and there is no way I'm wearing it on duty. I could never forgive myself if I damaged it, which is completely within the realm of possibility were I to wear it at work.

I wore Rolex and Omega in the Army and now I wear a GMT and SD just about every day in police work. I've said it before: If I should go boots up on the job, I'm damn sure not going out wearing a plastic watch.

My office is certainly a hostile environment. Come to think of it...my Sub is on five days a week for all desk diving operations.

Cheers to those who serve and protect.

Active duty USAF nurse. Have contemplated wearing my SD to work but the thing that keeps me from doing so are two things. I am a junior ranking officer and do not want my superiors to "judge" me. And the other is that sometimes I am elbow deep in sh*t and gloves dont always come up past the watch. I would need a good polish to get all that sh*t off.

Didn't realize how many Leo's we had on this forum. Never wear my rolex on the job. Two reasons. Don't want to destroy it (almost symbolizes for me my time off, when my suunto comes off and the Rolex comes on, it's me time) and two, don't want people judging me. way to many people judging at the office. Stay safe.

I am too worried about messing up my Sub C-LN, so it stays at home while I work on the road.

Wore my GMT everyday as a patrolman in Ohio and my 2 years with SWAT. It took it all well, and looked great when I moved on.

My mantra: If it's too nice to use, it's too nice to own.

Cheers, all.

Be careful out there.
