Icon8 Oh no presidential!

We just realized my close friends Presidential has moisture in it. He discovered that the crown was out in the first position this morning with no moisture. As we were sitting eating dinner, he realized the whole face was filled with moisture.

His heart sank a little and any local AD won't be open till Monday

Crown open so moisture can escape and face down so condensation is less likely to rest on movement. If you have silicate desiccant bags you can stack it around the crown opening.

FYI - An open crown on a twin lock will not let any moisture out, unless the seal is gone in the tube.

See photo below with seals in red.

This can be taken care of -- no worries. Yes, it's unfortunate, but it's not the end of the world.

I'm betting on a crystal gasket leak, or the crown tube gasket has been completely compromised. Although the damage has been done, it wouldnt hurt to keep the watch in a cold/dry environment (refrigerator) until it reaches a watchmaker.

I just had the gaskets changed in my 4 year old Explorer.

I hope to God I never ever have to see that on one of my watches.

Hope all goes well.

Open the crown, bury it in a tubbawear of dry rice (uncooked) and leave it overnight. Should suck up some moisture if it's a gasket leak.

Stick it in the oven at 350 degrees for one hour. That should do it...no just kidding. Bring that puppy in as soon as possible. Good luck and keep us posted.

I knew a watchmaker who would encounter this in various brands of watches from time to time. He would hang the watch under a shade on a table lamp with the lamp on. Not too close to the bulb, and not over the bulb, just close enough that it would receive steady warmth, and with the crown out.

While not a repair, getting the moisture out of this watch is a good thing to do. Perhaps laying it in the sunshine of a closed window. Yes this likely has an impact on lubrication/ evaporation, but getting the moisture out is the first priority. A good clean/lube is in order in any event, as the evaporating moisture may leave behind residue, and some key parts are subject to rust.

Getting it to your RSC right away, in any event should be first thing Monday...
