I can't believe I did this...

have you guys ever heard of a watch stalker? I was in men's clothing store the other day, and as usual I was checking everybody's wrist when I saw this guy with an Electric Hamilton Watch. It was a very rare model and I was looking for an excuse to approach the guy to talk about the watch and take a closer look at it. After 10 minutes or so, I came to my senses and started laughing about it. I was actually stalking the watch. I hope one of you guys have done the same thing, I don't want to be the only watch stalker around here.

I just had an idea. How about go old school, and print up some calling cards. Put your name, email, and title of "Watch collector and stalker" or something. Then you can say "Excuse me", introduce yourself, hand over a card showing the big bold WIS title, and then strike up a conversation. There is a pretty good chance if you know the history of a piece, the person wearing it may not, or know something you don't.

Oh, and dress the part too. And bathe.

Silvio,
Oh yeah, done it many times. Real embarrassing to approach them when they are not a WIS. But when they are their face will light up like they've found someone as sick as they are.

Somehow whenever walking by first class when boarding a plane I have to restrain myself to not comment on Rolex
One time I just said 'nice watch' to a young guy who was wearing a Speedmaster professional 321 or 861 ... he looked at me like he was thinking 'WHO IS THIS NUT!'

Well, he could have mis-interpreted it if you had approached him in that clothes' store asking him what watch he's wearing, so I guess it was a good thing you did well by not doing it

It is disappointing when/if you do attempt to strike a conversation and you get something like, "Uh, I dunno... it was a gift." End of discussion.

Very disappointed, and when it happens I always think with myself "You don't deserve the right to own that watch".
