New to this game
Hello folks, I am a new member and I have finally decided to buy my first Rolex. I want a Submariner stainless as new as possible. I am looking for a near mint watch at aa fair price. Any advice on where to look and what to look for would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

A near mint Sub, as new as possible, isn't going to cost very much less than a brand new one...

True. May as well go the extra mile and have the factory warranty. A couple hunderd bucks for the pride and a little peace of mind, too! A big welcome, hope you enjoy both the Sub and your stay here!

Welcome to TRF!
The SS Sub (Date? I believe?) is the iconic Rolex of them all I myself only by BNIB from an AD. And I believe you could get 10 % discount on the SS Sub, depending on your negotation skills. Paying cash always helps I wish you good luck, and please post pics when you get your Sub.

Well, I guess I don't mean new. My budget is about 3000 to 4000 and I would like to have one with the date. As long as it looks mint I am OK up to 10 years old. I saw a 1995 the other day and it was like new. Must have been reconditioned. Thanks for the advice.

10% sounds like it may work for me
So, 5200 - 520 right? How about the tax. If I buy out of of state do I have to pay tax? for 4500 I would probably go for the new one. Thanks again.

Always consider the older the watch the more important to factor the price of a service into the package.

Their is something very special about the day you went into your local AD and came out with your first Rolex. Save a little more and go new, get YOUR name on those papers, get the full experience. It's so worth it, you wont regret it.

Rolex changes its production series for every 1million watches they make , a practise started since the 80s. if u look at your warranty paper , there's a serial number on it that is unique to every Rolex made. this same number is printed on your movement and on your case. every serial number starts with an alphabet. Z being the production series between 2006 to 2007. and the latest series is M , started since Sep 2007

You don't have to pay taxes if you buy from an AD out of your state, but as long as the AD don't have a store in your state. Also, you can't walk out of the store with the watch, the AD has to send it to you via a carrier like UPS.

i bought my new rolex too. a few hundred bucks discount for a 5-10 years old sub. i not gonna consider it a bit.
if you willing to throw in $4500 for a watch why not another $500 for a brand new and a true AD. i sleep soundly after i got it from AD. no nightmare, no waking up and check my rolex. and asking myself. got dam it. it is a FOLEX. |

My advise is to get a new one from an AD, but if you insist on buying a second hand check the "For sale" topic in this forum. Maybe you can find something good there...

Deals are out there
I just picked a lnib Z series 16610 from a particapant on another forum that was purchased from an AD in late Feb 2007. All boxes tags, papers ect.....
The remmnants of the hologram were mounted on the cardboard warranty/manual sleeve and the clasp is still so tight that there is some resistance when opening and closing, just like a new one. This was a local sale which made it even more of a bonus. $3800...... Sub dates are rarely, if ever discounted in my neck of the woods. As this will be my second sub date and my fifth sub variant NIB with my name on the papers really is not a big deal, maybe you can get 10% off (5% after VA/DC sales tax) if you are lucky. You can find good buys if you know what you are doing. You can pay retail if you want, and there is something to be said for your first one to be NIB from an auth. dealer. Personally I think retail sucks, especially with these kind of deals floating around out there. |
