Hey guys, I'm looking at possibly acquiring a Daytona 6262. Serial is 241xxxx Was wondering if some of the vintage experts here could weigh in. Watch is from Andrew Shear, so dealer reputation is obviously not an issue. He's holding it for me until I can see it later this week.

Everything looks good based on pictures. However, I wanted to some thoughts from some of the experts here on the lugs, dial, etc etc in case there's something I missed or am not considering.

I'm also mulling the purchase of a DRSD, I will likely get one of the two but probably not both.

Thanks guys! Yeah, the DRSD is very tempting and also on my radar. I always seem to ultimately gravitate toward dive watches.

Can't go wrong with either. What I love about that 6262 is that it was only produced in 1970. You won't find another one with better subdials. When I was on the hunt for my 6263 I just recently bought from Andrew my main stipulations were lume dots intact and nice looking registers. Don't put that thing on or you'll definitely go home with her. Below is some enabling. Let us know what you choose.

In addition the tachymeter looks really nice considering all of the ink is on the bezel. As I'm sure you know, bezels this old often have some of the black ink gone which bothers me.

Going to see it tomorrow. Thanks for the pics goog53. Beautiful!! Yes, if the watch looks anywhere near as good in person as it does in pictures, I'm in trouble.

I think I'll eventually own both, but I've gone on a bit of a crazy watch binge this year (thanks TRF for the enabling), so in the interest of not pissing off my fiance I will probably hold off on one of the two.

Thanks for the input everyone. Btw, I'm aware that there's a little lume is missing at the 9'oclock dot. Does anyone know if this creates a stability issue going forward, eg will the deterioration of that particular dot accelerate because some is missing already?

Personally it bothers me when some lume is missing and I normally pass on those. But if you're not as fussy, go for it!

What's the reason why Sea Dwellers have been soft? Any input is appreciated!

Don't worry about the lume dot. It is no big deal. There is always something wrong, if you want to look carefully enough.

I can't give any real analytic reasons why they have been soft, I can just confirm that they definitely have been, for the past 6-12 months. Comparatively very few of my collectors have been asking for them, and those who do are more price-sensitive than previously. These models just seem to be out of fashion with the serious buyers at this time.

Also, buyers seem to be more and more particular about what is acceptable in terms of condition, rendering those examples with even the slightest defects nearly unsalable at any price. In particular, the second a seller of a Double-Red confirms that a Mk IV dial has even the slightest chip my valuation falls to something below $15,000 (and I wouldn't even buy it myself at that price)!

You might want to consider getting them both now. From my own personal experience, dealing with a pissed off fiance is much easier than dealing with a pissed off wife.

Well saw the watch in person. It was beautiful. And Andrew is a great guy. Pretty much the only flaw was the lume dot at 9. Just the very top was shaved off a bit, but it's not something I would notice except under a loupe, and even then it's difficult to make out. Gonna do it. Thanks for your input everyone! Photos as soon as I get the watch next week.
