Spit and shine?

I was just curious if anyone else ever had the same little weird habit as me, or if I was all alone...

...Every now and then if i look at my DSSD and its all smudgy from finger prints and not too shiny , ill just lick my finger like I would sometimes before I turn a page in a book, and then wipe off my watch and use the edge of my shirt or something to give it a little wipe down.

Then its all shiny :) I just love how the ceramic bezel looks when its clean.

...Probably only one but does anyone else? ha

I used to but someone gave me a Vroom microfiber towel a while back and it is the best I have found at removing smudges and other stuff from a watch dry. Besides saliva will leave a residue on the watch… not to mention the bacteria. I carry the Vroom towel in a Ziploc in my briefcase along with Veraet everywhere I go and anytime I travel.

x2 In addition, I believe it is possible for your shirt to leave hairline scratches on the surface. That's why Raybans come with a microfiber cloth, if you use your shirt a lot it can scratch the lenses.

Its a DSSD....not a Plati DD. Ive got a nick or two and plenty of hairline scratches

I don't leave saliva on the watch...thats why I wipe it off And bacteria....trust me....everyone gets more from a million other things (including themselves) besides their watch. I think the stat is a human touches there face ~6 times/min or something? Keyboard, face. Mouse, face. etc..

I would use an extra oakley sunglass bag I have but that would be too much. Not physically, but just another thing to carry. This is all impromptu - oh, i need to get this guy shiny again- *shines* - niceee.

Also, be careful w/ microfibers....theyre great, until you drop it once or it gets some dirt on it. The dirt will stay "clung" to it and then scratch the surface of whatever next time you wipe it. Thats why when you detail a car you do small portions and not big swipes across whole body panels!

Mothers have used this method to clean kids faces for generations. Mine carried tissues in her purse just for this purpose, although I'd swear she carried sandpaper for those stubborn Kool Aid stains.

No to the first step. Yes to the second. Sometimes I will use a piece of my shirt (generally silk or other soft button up) and will wipe clear the crystal.

If moisture is needed, I find water.

To shine on the go, I will use whatever fabric I have available: pocket square, tissue, shirt tail. I don't see the need to add saliva to the mix.

Switched to plexi and I've never had an issue with prints or smudges.

I remember being ocd on my IWC with double AR... Don't miss that feeling at all. :)

I usually just hold my wrist under running water for a moment the next time I wash my hands.

Ha this has been hilarious. I am glad I am not alone. I dont think youd ever find me huff and shine tho...

As for people who say do it in the bathroom-I do. This when I am out an about between things, middle of the hallway on way to meetings, in the car, where ever. Just a quick impromptu thing. If I planned it, which I never do, of course I would just go to the bathroom or use a water bottle or something.

For people who think thats gross. I would love to hear your opinion on how the eye doctor tells you if your contact falls out, the best thing to do if no saline/contact solution is available, is to put it in your mouth/use saliva.

.....and just spit and shined. Looking good :)
