GMT-Master II - Noise

When I listen to the 3186 movement I can hear a "ting-ting-ting" metallic sound which then goes to a "tic-tic-tic" sound then back to the metallic sound every minute.

Does your GMT Master II sound the same? Why does it change sounds like that?

Don't worry, that is perfectly normal!

The 4 Hertz frequency of your 28,800 bpH mvt. will make that alternating ting-ting-ting sound between the tic-tic-tic sound.

That sound is MUSIC to my ears! I simply love it!

as long as it doesn't make a rattling noise, or 'badda bing!' i think you're ok.

Mine does the same. You're fine.
You want weird mechanical noises? Get anything with a 7750 movement.

Mine also makes the "ting" sound. It is loud enough to bother me at night if I wear it. I keep it on my night stand and can sometimes hear it resonate through the night stand/bed.

What about green sub? If I shake my sub, I can hear like clicking noise inside the watch(rotor maybe?). Is it normal?

I have always loved the way my Exp II sounds. Have your AD look at if you are concerned.

Doh!! I had one like that. I would be typing away on the computer, and all of a sudden I would hear this "ting ting ting ting..." It was my Pepsi's ticking! Audible enough for me to hear it while typing!

I traded that watch in. None of the other rolexes have done that.

To me, that sounds like a gear is slightly lop-sided or something causing more presure during 1/2 of the minute than the other or something. That is just my theory ;-)

If you can hear the ting ting ting, when the watch is not right up against your ear, that means you still have really good hearing!!! So be happy!!

Hmm.. I just (gently) shook my LV, and I'm having trouble hearing anything like a clicking noise. But as long as your watch is keeping time I wouldn't be concerned. If your LV is ticking once per second, though, I would be concerned. :)

Great. First I have to read about how some of you can see the etched crown without the aid of a loupe.

Now I see some of you can hear your watches ticking.

Fan-frickin-tastic.

What's my next humiliation, dentures?

Does the sound alternate each minute between the 'tick tick tick' and the 'ting ting ting' (metallic) sound?

GMT II Ceramic Bezel Anniversary!

You may have me hooked on the GMT II Anniversary now. Does anyone know what the MSRP of this watch is?

Mine too

My GMT makes exactly the same 'metallic' sound that you describe Greg. I also have a Sub which makes a hardly audible tick. In the beginning I thought something may be wrong but reading what other members have written this must be quite normal.

Same sound here

I just bought my first Rolex two weeks ago (F Serial GMT II) and I also was concerned about the audible tick and "ting-ting" sound. My friend has a SD and it doesn't make much noise at all.

I've checked out 3 different GMT IIs at different ADs, and they all sound just like mine. Now that I know it's normal, the sound grows sweeter everyday!

It is music to my ears, but nothing beats a V-Twin on full song!
