16610 value in years to come

I've considered selling my 16610 to fund a purchase of a sub c but I'm wondering 10 years down the line will the value of my 16610 increase enough in price to keep for another decade? I know it was a very popular watch and very common but will it ever become 'collectable' or will it take 50-100 years for that to occur. I've also thought about keeping the 16610 as a daily beater as it's such an enjoyable watch to wear. Maybe one day pass on too my future kids! What do you guys think?

I dont ever see the 16610 becoming collectible. There are just way to many of them out there in all honesty. There is also nothing wrong with selling it to purchase a sub C and letting that be your daily beater watch that you can then give to one of your children later on in life.

very difficult to say - with the ever increasing interest of Rolex world-wide..... who knows.
the 1610LV may have a slight edge over the normal 16610.

im sure Peter (Padi56) will share his views of this topic very soon.

I think in 50 years the anniversary sub will become highly collectable just like the red subs as there aren't as many! I just find them ugly! If I ever received a good deal on an lv I think I would take it. What's the cheapest they go for these days? I think I love my 16610 too much to let go will just see how I feel once I've gotten my sub c in September !

With inflation and Rolex price increases, your 16610 Submariner should retain its value fairly well. From my past experience from collecting Rolexes the last 20 years, I'd expect about an 7%-10% adjusted value per year for your Submariner. If it is currently valued at $4,000, it could easily be worth $7,500 or more in 10 years. I've seen some models double in value in as little as five years. As far as it being collectable in the future, only time will tell. I'd hold on to the 16610 for now and pass on the ceramic Submariner.

Didn't you just buy that 16610 like 2 weeks ago...

I don't think it will ever be collectable or worth more than it is today....IMHO

Yeah your probably right better to hold onto it. Even if it doesn't increase in price I'll more then likely get my money's worth back down the line.

I think they'll hold value well, but I don't see the 16610 becoming extremely collectible. There are just sooooo many of them out there. Maybe in a few decades they'll be a bit harder to source. I think the 16610LV may do ok, but again, a lot out there (relative to a Red Sub).

Well.... If you consider the current sub is worth 1000 dollars more now then it was worth in 2010 at it's release and it will keep on rising I think the 16610 will slowly rise along with it even if not by that much. People with less money would be willing to save 2000 dollars on a pre owned to obtain an almost similar looking watch. So I think if the sub c rose to a price of 10,000 the 16610 could cost about 7000 then?

If there was one sub to have... Would it be a red sub?

It will hold value pretty well but considering there is 50 million out there I can't see it being that highly collectible. i would just get whatever you like better and enjoy it.

Like everything else, condition is key. Mint full sets will always be in demand, IMHO. And for many, mint watches regardless of whether a set or not. If I'm wrong, so be it, but the really mint watches I run across wind up in my safe, so I'm putting my money on it.

If it were me, price not an issue, it would be a mint mil sub or maybe a comex dial sub. Something crazy like that.

But if you're talking about a daily wear modern sub, i'd go with a the 16610LV. With the maxi-dial and lines that are more classical than a Sub-C, it's a great mesh of modern/traditional. Plus you can swap out the bezel insert. JMHO

Cannot see any modern day Rolex every becoming collectible. All that happened was a refresh and there are millions of 16610's out there today... Hold its value-YES... Appreciate like crazy or ever be collectible-NO IMO

Keep in mind the price of the 116610 will continue to rise and more than likely at a higher % thank your 16610 will appreciate. That being the case today may be the cheapest day if you will to trade up to the new 116610...

Maybe a white-dial 6204? Supposedly only one in existence. If you mean modern Sub post year 2000, I'd guess it would have to be the 16610LVs or at least they will be once the 116610 LV overtakes it. Just keep in mind Rolex is making A LOT of watches per year and have been for a very long time. So the word 'rare' is very relative.

Red Subs can go anywhere from around $7K to around $13K depending on condition and accessories (box, papers, etc). Example:

I'm actually in the same boat as well. I just got the f serial 11610, and I have been debating whether the engraved rehauts or mine (w/o the engraving) would hold better value. I mean, how long did rolex make subs with SEL, no lug holes, and w/o the engraving???

Thats mainly because of inflation and price rises in real terms would doubt if the real value has increased by a huge amount. And why is it today that Rolex watches too some are thought of as little more than ££££$$$$ signs.

It will go up in value - but that's just inflation.
The price of everything else will go up as well.
I wouldn't keep it just for the hopes of a huge appreciation in value.
Get the SubC.

too many about to ever be collectable but as each year passes & the new RRP increases the older / pre-owned models will keep a steady price just behind..if buying to flip within a matter of months i doubt you'll see much, other than a return of your initial outlay....in 10 or more years though i reckon you'll be ok for a few beers profit
