About to buy my first rolex, do you guys think this is real or fake?
I'm about to pull the trigger on a DATEJUST thunderbird turnograph. Black dial
I'm looking at this one on eBay. what do you guys think? http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-MENS-SS-WG-R...QQcmdZViewItem Here are my questions to him and his replies: 1. In your auction, you didn't mention the size of this watch. is it 36mm? YES 2. Is the crown Micro etched in at the 6-o'clock position? SOME HAVE IT SOME DONT (i thought all newer models have it etched in??) 3. Does this watch have the "Registered Design" number at the watch end link at the 12 o'clock position and at the 6 o'clock position is there a serial #? YES 4. Where is the green hologram sticker on the caseback? This is the new style sticker and no its not engraved its just a sticker. I guarantee its authenticity 100 percent if its grossly under described or not authentic I will refund your money 1000 percent. (really? then why do I see the same one except, it has a white dial with the green hologram sticker on the caseback?) ENLIGHTEN ME GUYS! This will be my first watch. |

Welcome to TRF. Stick around and join the fun here.
As for the watch, the seller is a well established e-bay seller with a good reputation. The price is fair (not rock bottom) and you could do worse. You always take your chance when you don't buy from an AD, but some of us have done well on e-bay. You just have to be careful. The watchword is: Buy the seller, not the watch. If you do that, you should make out OK.

Actually, usaveontime is my 2nd choice when it comes to ebay. I have never bought from him, because my 1st choice ebayer is Bell8769 and he is as good as it gets.
Brian Bell ususally has less than 30 Rollies at a time, but his inventory turns over quickly. I have purchased two of my three Rolexs from Brian.

Thanks! more reviews are welcome
Oh wow, so he is a good seller after all. It's hard to tell because he answers my questions with YES/NO answers.
Too bad he doesn't have the black dial DATEJUST thunderbird with the green hologram on the caseback. I'm ready to pull the trigger on it. |

If that is the actual picture of the watch you can just barley see the etching on the dial in the 2nd picture. See the very faint top of the crown just below the white dot a six o'clock.

I'm just a lurker throwing in my 2 cents here but
I would make the guy an offer first. If you look at his completed items, only about 5% of his stuff is selling.

* Research the watch your buying. Most sellers list the model number so use the net to research it. * Ask to see papers or Service receipts, etc. * Research forums and ask for refferals on the seller. * Buy the Seller - then the watch. * There's nothing wrong in making a sensible offer. If you don't ask - you don't get !! In my experience, 8 0ut 10 times - there is always room for a little negotiation even if you save the seller the closing fee, which on Rolex figure is worth having. In my opinion: * Most importantly, be realistic.... with figures. There are bargains out there, but watch out for the ' Too good to be true' offers. Your only down side transacting out of E-Bay - is you loose any protection offered through E-Bay. But there again, there are other ways to protect yourself - using Paypal, Credit Card through Paypal etc.. |

Welcome to TRF!
![]() Well, let's say it this way: If you get a deal that reflects the previous feedback the seller has received, and if you get the actual watch pictured, you get a good deal. ![]()

Thanks for the recommended sellers! I've never considered Ebay as a possible watch source but with those recommendations atleast I know it's a possible safe option. Any Panerai sellers recommended?????
