Is there an MSRP vs RESALE chart for high end brands?

hello goodmorning,

Being on this TRF board, I have learned that there are plenty of other more expensive brands as well. So I am wondering if there is a chart/table that compares the MSRP of a brand to its average resale value.
So when someone tells me that their watch cost them $90K, then I can get
a quick rule of thumb idea on how much it is worth now. So it gives us an idea as to how brands keep their resale value.

Something like this:

BRAND ********************AVE RESALE
******===============************
Rolex*****************90% of MSRP after 5 yrs
Patek*****************95% of MSRP after 5 yrs
Lange & Sohne*********75% of MSRP after 5 yrs
RADO*****************Please gimme a break!

thank you

The answer is no and there are far too many variables with many watches to broadly categorize them like that. For example certain Pateks are worth 150-200% of MSRP and that isn't for vintage but even includes ones still being made like the 5131. Certain AP's sell for 150% of MSRP like the RB2's and Montoya's. So--sorry no such chart exists and the best way to check resale value of a watch vs. MSRP is to follow auction results.

If it's limited edition, it has the possibility to increase in value when left in mint.

You'd be the first to compile such a list.

Give it a try and get back to us when done.

Well because many people think that if they spent $6,000 on a SEIKO or a CARTIER their watch is still worth $6K --- Some brands lose values like a bowling ball thrown in water. Also I want to know how well a brand other than Rolex holds its value. I saw a AP in a case for $35,000 so my wife goes
wow! look at that, it is $35K!!!

I want to be in a position where I can say "Sure, it is $35K now but about 5yrs from now you are gonna lose about $10K on it or the watch will appreciate 7% in the next 5yrs....."

I have had some people I know show me how much they spent on their Rolex Presidential --- and then they say "well 10yrs from now, it is gonna double in value" and I say "no, the day/date has a pretty sucky resale" and they stare at me with their eyes wide open.

I agree --- Ebay and TRF Sales section is where I can get some data.

Thank you! This reminds me when I was in school. I asked the teacher that it would be great if we had A, B, C & D. The teacher smiled and said "you got it.. why don't you do A&B for me!" and I was stuck all weekend doing that task for him.

thanks!

i dont think its fair to use a certain figure or percentage for a brand to calculate their resale value(s).
for an example, an 18K DJ will not achieve the same resale percentage as, say.. a SS 16610... over a 10 year-period.

so, you could be the first one to compile a very extensive resale study, for every brand and its models...

Is there a Brand that holds it value more than Rolex, Patek isn't as good as Rolex in our market when I say 2nd hand prices.

Again one can't use an entire brand as each brand has many different references which perform quite differently as I stated above. Also purchase price is far more important in resale than MSRP.
