SWATCH owns OMEGA? Yuck....
I was doing some reading and tried to learn about OMEGA's beginnings. Turns out that OMEGA is owned by the SWATCH group. SWATCH word reminds me of teenagers with CASIOs, walking around the mall.
So I read this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swatch_Group So the point is that I love ROLEX because no one owns ROLEX except ROLEX themselves. If OMEGA was a sole company, I would look at its watches for my future collection but knowing that SWATCH owns OMEGA, makes me totally go YUCK!! --- Next thing you know, INVICTA will also be owned by SWATCH! ---- the name SWATCH just sounds way too immaturish to me. |

Continue your research and you should unravel many things which will probably make you go "YUCK!!" continuously. I guess all watches with an ETA movement should not be purchased either since they are part of the Swatch group as well? On that same token Tudor models using Swatch group ETA movements would be out of the question. Or how about Glashütte Original, Breguet, Blancpain? Ownership is nothing nowadays. Capital and professionalism speaks. Several exclusive car brands are owned by companies which would probably turn you off as well. Business cooperations often span across intricate networks of industries and companies nowadays. The watch industry is peanuts compared to what you find in other industries. You better be careful how picky you are in terms of brand "purity". You may just end up not being able to buy anything at all.

Damn, they own Breguet as well!
I guess Breguet is garbage as well now. And to think I thought of them as top tier. I'll just go get a Swatch watch with a hand engraved guilloche dial that beats at 10hz rather pay the premium for a stupid little "Breguet" Nice try, Swatch! You ain't foolin' us no more we're on to you! |

Just wow.....
I guess since Bugatti is owned by VW we should consider the Veyron an expensive Beetle.... Such an ignorant statement. |

Invicta will not be owned by swatch. If they were, they would be better because they could pop some ETA movements in them. As we all know, Swatch has a lock on those ETA and has stopped releasing them to smaller brands.
if you are familiar with Lum-Tec, they had that situation. Swatch is holding of on those movements so now they have to use Miyota's new auto movement. |

ok- Very dumb and immaturish of me. All I was trying to say was that ROLEX company stands alone and always has and that gives an indication of its strength and prowess!
They did not merge with anyone and that is "pure" to me. Thank you- |

The late Nicolas Hayek essentially saved Omega and other brands by conglomerating them into the Swatch Group. Now, Omega is working to get back to its former glory and with the progress they're making, I think it's working. |

OMG! Are you serious? Why hasn't anybody told me? Not only can I not buy any Omega watches but here are some more breaking news: ALS, JLC and Vacheron Constantin are not independent companies either, I guess they are out the window too.

Alright this one is done....Enough for me.
Let's use some common sense when posting new threads so we can avoid this.
