Desperately seeking advice
Im excited to be able to purchase a rolex! I want a rolex that will withstand the test of time, that is a classic look and can be spotted a mile away that its a rolex. I know I want a silver with white gold jubilee bracelet and diamond dial. However I need your help in finding the most classic rolex style that will last at least 15 years. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated |

All Rolex models will last 40 plus years just with normal wearer care and routine normal service. And just cannot see why you would any watch to stand out that it could be spotted a mile away.If you want that type of watch there are many other brands that specialise like Chronovski Exquite designer in the over bling type of watch.

Unfortunately, one of the things you're looking for doesn't exist. If you want a WG bracelet, you'll need to opt for either an Oyster bracelet on the Submariner, (which prevents you getting a diamond dial), or a solid WG Datejust on the President bracelet.
SS/YG or SS/RG would give you plenty of options within the DateJust line, with plenty of diamond dial choices. |

I think you are looking for attention and a way to express your insecurity and lack of self confidence. I think you are buying a Rolex for the wrong reasons.
By the way, my 1680 submariner 1978 still going strong. If you really like Rolex then go for it. There are other bling watches in the market. Buy it because you like it, not because of what you think others like. I can afford a Porshe SUV but drive a Toyota highlander. Hahahaha Last edited by zion_rasta; 22 July 2012 at 12:13 AM.. The reason Im seeking your advice is I found a dealer who will give me 15% off so I want to take advantage of it before they change their mind.
It sounds like I should get the DJ. This dealer actually has a jubilee bracelet DJ in Stainless steel and white gold. Any thoughts on what kind of dial is the best dial to get 26mm or 31mm? Which will hold its value more? And, what kind white, silver or rhodium? |

From what I've seen, the 26 mm is considered too small these days and is difficult to read. 31mm is better, 36 mm may be the best as bigger women's watches are in. You should pay a visit to the AD to see what fits you.

Hi,
Take whatever time you need to make an informed and enthusiastic decision. Don't jump primarily because of a discount offer. It can be an expensive mistake to back out of. The DateJust is a lifetime classic. Many women still enjoy the 26mm. I went with 31mm and am very happy with it. Of course larger sizes are great too, depending on your taste, as well as other styles, like the midsize Yachtmaster. But a DJ with Jubilee bracelet, fluted, and a diamond dial is awesome! Have you considered a MOP (mother of pearl) dial? |

She wants input on a choice of watch. Is that a problem? Nobody benefits from this sort of ignorant and hostile response.

Ladies DJ. My mother has 3. The design is practically the same between hers from 86 and the last one she got in 2010. My wife got a 26mm DJ. She didn't like the larger ones. As for it being noticed 99.9% of people in this world can't tell a Rolex from a fossil and don't care. You can draw more attention from a fake gold watch from Macy's for $40 than most Rolexes. Find an AD and try many on. Also ask to look at the dial book as there are prob 100 different dials for the DJ.

A 31mm datejust in steel with white gold bezel, black sunburst dial with white gold roman numbers, is a particularly stunning combination IMHO. Hope you find that you really like. The research part of the buying process can be the most fun :)

First post here gentlemen. What a great resource and a fantastic forum.
I have muddled through over the years with my speedmaster automatic. Great watch, but never really used the chronograph in anger. Let me tell you my rolex story.... Always admired the Oyster range, took a look at pre-owned in a retailer near to me. Lovely watches, but wondered who has been fishing around inside them? Who has snooped in the back, if you know what I mean?? Walked along to Goldsmiths in the same centre, AD as you all call it, and realised a new watch is an honest watch. WOW.... Prices for new obviously increased, but new is new. Purchased a lovely 114234 Air-king, name on card and stickers to remove. Fluted bezels are rolex, IMHO. Bought the watch in february, dared not to brush my teeth; let alone persue any other physical activity with it on my wrist. That soon passed, these watches are robust. It gains +5 per day, and because I can't wear a wristwatch at work; it gets manually wound once or maybe twice a week.... Works beautifully. And guess what... there are scratches... Been tormented by the big Submariner, GMT, DJ, DJII and Sky-Dweller (LOL), but these specimens are far too big for my wrist; like parading around with a tin of spam on the arm. WEAR YOUR WATCH, AND ENJOY IT... |

From one Canuck to the other, Welcome! Please ignore the one negative post - all members on the TRF website behave as ladies and gentlemen and all are very helpful.
I purchased a Daydate Ladies President for my wife back in 1992 for our 25th wedding aniversary. It has the full load - 18K gold with diamond dial and bezel. Believe me when I say this watch gets noticed, mostly by the gals who are more into bling and brand awareness. For our 40th wedding aniversary, I bought her a Datejust II with the pink wave diamond dial and white gold bezel. This is a much larger watch than the Lady President and has great presence on her wrist. Again, the ladies seem to notice more, most men being indifferent unless they are into Rolex watches. Go to your Rolex AD and start trying on the different models. A 15% discount is not bad, but it is possible to do better. The Rolex Datejust is considered a classic, and it comes in two sizes and in many different versions. Take some wrist photos of your favorites and post them on the forum for member advice. This has become a popular sport on the TRF forum and many members have based their decisions on the feedback. Remember, you are the final arbitrator - just make sure it rings the bells and make's your heart go pitty - patty!! Good Luck Hunting!! J. Alan |

Datejust with fluted and jubillee bracelet, that'll be spotted a mile away.
But for a classic Rolex, i'd go for a SubC or the quintessential Sub 114060. |

Here is a pic of 26mm rhodium diamond dial.
What do you guys think? Should I go for the 31mm? Should I go for MOP diamond dial? |
