Sub > PO
Having nearly gone to the dark side, I decided to return the Omega Planet Ocean... Omega quality isn't as good as Rolex I'm afraid. Yes historically their bracelets have been better but now Rolex is head and shoulders ahead! Omega market the PO as a Sub beater but on closer inspection you realise details such as thr way the bezel rotates shows why the sub is £1,750 more! Had a sub but sold it after a month as two uncomfortable but really is there a better dive watch under £6k out there? Will keep the constellation as it has a unique and charming design.
Ps. The celebrity omega wearers thread has only 4 pages on an omega forum while Rolex celeb thread is endless... Hate Rolex watch co. love Rolex watches! End of rant! |

I've been looking at Constellations. With the right one, I'll have enough Omegas.

More power to you, wear the watch in good health. I recently replaced my SS Black Daytona with a Speedy Pro that I've owned for about 9 years. Love the Speedy Pro more than the Daytona, just took me about a year to be honest with myself. I sold the Daytona this past weekend and have not regretted it!

Speedy pro is a great sleek watch, it's surprising how slim the profile is, not big fan of chrono's and as I prefer the el primero movement I sidestepped the speedy for my zenith new vintage. Speedy pro probably best omega...

The Daytona is a great piece, I made a tidy profit on one I was lucky enough to get hold of but too shiny for my liking and not value for money. And the ultimate deal breaker was the screw in chrono pushers which put me off using the chrono function. But love the case of the Daytona just a bigger dj type case!

Prior to doing an impulse buy on the constellation I never gave it a second glance... However when I was browsing a local AD I thought I'd try it on for fun and was instantly taken by its thin profile and integrated bracelet. Its so Genta-esque... Some might say its too feminine but I usually find feminine designs to be most pleasing on the eye.
I'd definitely go for one, perhaps two tone with the red gold? |

I was hoping to like the new ceramic PO's enough to buy one.
I love the 8500 mvt. Highly regarded and pretty to look at. I like the matte ceramic, the dial, great lume, overall a nice looking watch. But, They are very thick and chunky. Not quite Deepsea thick but way thicker than a Sub. I cannot believe the bracelet has no micro adjustment, not even an old school spring bar clasp, nothing! You need to add/remove links to size, and if your wrist swells due to weather changes, well, tough I guess. I was really surprised they'd redesign the PO, change the pins to screws but not have any type of adjustable clasp. This alone is a deal breaker for me, particularly with the Glidelock around. As others said, bezel looks great, but, it's not as smooth or precise as the Rolex bezels, and, of the 3 PO's I played with, all bnib at AD's, 2 had noticeably misaligned bezels, that's 2 of the 3. AND, one of the 3 had an hour and minute hand not properly synced. In other words, the hour hand won't point exactly at the marker as the minute hand hits 12, it was a couple of minutes off. So, all 3 I looked at had a QC issue. Add the unadjustable bracelet, fairly sloppy bezel feel and the very thick, chunky profile, and I too feel Rolex is still a better watch, though I admit, the PO's are almost as nice, I suspect in a few years they'll be just as nice, different, but very nice. I just think they're not quite there yet, some minor bugs to be worked on. For now, I'll stick with my Sub C. |

It's pretty hard to fault modern Omega I'm afraid. Their designs may change often and the endless special editions are annoying but the brand does have something about it. I wear a Speedmaster Date along with my Rolex and Zenith. Omega has a different personality, that's all. The PO is a well-built machine. I owned one for a while and its quality is on par with Rolex.

I use to own a couple of Omegas and their bracelets were definitely more "sturdy" than Rolex until the last few years when they upgraded the clasp. Regardless of it all, I am more fond of my Rolex Explorer 2 than the Seamaster GMT black dial, even though the lume isn't as bright as the Omega.
I won't have trouble selling my Rolex if needed, but it takes a while to move Omegas unless you need to liquidate them ASAP on the pennies. |

I too have noticed misaligned bezels on both the new and old PO. I was at a Rolex/Omega AD today and the 42mm ceramic I tried on was slightly misaligned. I asked the salesperson about it and she claimed (politely) that it was some sort of optical illusion. What is the deal with these misalignments? Just a QC issue as stated by Megalobyte?

Ive tried the Omega PO 8500 and IMHO its quality is just as good as the SubC I had on. Maybe I'd notice a difference if I actually owned one but I want one soon. IMHO the 8500 mvt is superior to the Sub mvt. If it stands the test of time as far is durability it will be considered superior. I think the biggest obstacle omega has with the PO is that many Rolex owners are "Brand Blind.". Throw a crown on the PO and I think almost everyone would go crazy for it. I'm not saying its better than my sub at all but I think it's a damn fine peice at an amazing price. I will say there is no better bang for your buck.

I agree the Omega divers are well-made watches. I sincerely wish I still had my Seamaster 2254.

i find the PO8500 more comfortable than my gmt2c.
i find it better looking, more legible, but if i just put a leather strap on my gmt i think the game will change. |

I posted these in another forum, just including for some context here. Mind you this was my 2500 series 45.5mm PO taken during a boutique visit a few months ago.

This thread isn't about the aesthetics of the PO but rather it's build quality which is nowhere as good as the Rolex. The 8500 movement is better finished but if it's anything like the 2500 then no way can it be considered better than the Rolex workhorses.
I am not a blind Rolex lover, I'm not in the bracket that think rolexes are haute horology but more of a hyped every mans watch. But credit where credit is due, less QC issues with Rolex than omega. I find bezel play on the PO to be different on different PO's but on subs they're all uniform |

PO is more avant garde with the sub more classical in appearance hence aesthetically i would buy both but on quality alone I'd overlook the po

i love the look of that PO but compared to the Sub and GMT, it looks less refined
Great watch though, can't go wrong!

I've had an PO and I've tried the new one. For me they were too big and bulky, I like the sleeknes of the Sub. Even the new SubC is much more comfortable than PO's.
PO definitely has a very nice dial and the AR allows to see the details much better than on a Sub. PO dial looks 3D and very beautiful and changes depending on light. Still, the size and the bracelet made me sell my PO and got a SubC. |

Po 8500 = sub c date
I have both and they both have their ups and downs. But there is no way the sub is better than po8500. |

...as pointed out, the PO bracelet is very nice. The current Rolex bracelet though, with its new clasp make it downright terrific.

I couldnt give a monkeys about what a celebrity wears or does, but when someone for whom money is no object chooses one brand over another that speaks volumes
everyone has their own criteria of better, for me finish and QC on rolexes are much higher than on omegas. |

I saw the PO 8500 at the omega store and it does look incredibly nice and the movement is beautiful. For me though seamaster design isn't as timeless as the submariner. The PO looks nice now but I'm not sure how this modern and sleek design will look 20 years from now. The sub on the other hand will look good no matter what year it is. That's just how I feel.

But again...re build quality / fit and finish...I think Omegas are on par with Rolex.
