Ever heard of someone doing this?

So, I realize that I may catch some flak for suggesting this but has anyone removed the 24 hour hand of their explorer ii? I have a white 16570 and some times I think the dial would be cleaner looking without it. I also have a sub and just love the simple look of it, a big reason I went with the explorer is because of the white dial. I know that it's a useful function of the watch and the bezel will make no sense without the hand, but I only travel to different time zones a couple times a year and even then I doubt I would miss it much.

Has anyone done this or heard of someone doing this? If so I'd love to see some pics. Would doing this be considered sacrilege? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1344213375.684698.jpg

I've not heard of actually removing it...but it does look really nice when the 24 hand is hidden behind he minute hand. Very clean.

I thought the same thing on my gmt. The clean look of the submariner dial is my favorite beezel/dial combination...
I guarantee that if you buy another submariner you will forget about modifying your Exp...
I agree that the white dial EXP is a very cool watch....

I wouldn't do that. I don't think Rolex would ever service the watch if it's been modified. If you want super clean I'd go with the sub no date.

Can't see the point. Buy a Sub if you don't want four hands.

Well the whole reason this came to mind is because I really like wearing a white dial watch. If they came out with a white dial sub, I'd get it in a heart beat

I see what you mean. It looks very clean... But! I like having the 24hand. Its there for reason. Especially for deep ice cave explorers in alaska.

I'm all about mods so do what you want if that is what you like, but IMO, the 24 hour hand ties the whole watch together, and gives a little pop to the watch that makes it look brilliant.

I say why stop there? Just think of how "clean" the dial would look if you took off the hour and the minute hand too. Just that sleek seconds hand sweeping across that white dial. Sublime. Simply, sublime.

I think it would look cool but could guarantee you would want the gmt hand back within a month. Just my 6 1/2 cents

Not something I'd consider Sam, but it is your watch to do as you please!!
Kinda' defeats the whole pupose of the watch, white dial or not....

Why not flip it if you're not happy with it, and go for a new white stick dial smooth bezel DJII??

i'd rather look to changing for a white DJ, OP, Milgauss, etc. instead of taking out the 24-hour hand, as the watch wouldn't "make sense" to me anymore. anyway, do what you like.

Or the white Milgauss for that matter...Still, to each his own. I wouldn't do it though because I love the dash of color the GMT hand gives to the watch.

the polar white dial and red GMT hands was what drew me to the Expy 2 so I won't be as adventurous as what you are proposing.

It's an interesting concept and thanks for showing us what it looks like, but I wouldn't do it myself if I had an explorer II.

As others have suggested, I'd aim to buy another watch that comes without the extra hand in the first place.

Of course, you aren't me, so if you like it that way, then wear it in good health.

I think it really looks much better without the GMT hand. Much cleaner and more eye-catching IMHO. I think it will work with the white dial but am doubtful if the same effect or look can be achieved with the black dial. I like your idea.

It's your money but if you want the look, why not just sell the Explorer and get something else? The whole point of the Explorer 2 is a nice clean GMT without being fiddley like the GMT Master
