The Blancpain 50 Fathoms tested in 1952, the first Rolex sub prototype 1953 Wonder if Rolex got there Idea for the Sub,
from the Blancpain,they are very similar.

I often wondered that same thing. Since the 50F came first, it seems Rolex is a knock-off of the whitebread. And here all these Rolex snobs wearing Subs get arsed at hommage watches, copies or fakes, when the Sub is an hommage to a Blancpain.

Well John I have always said that, and been taken to task on several
other forums for saying it,And 100% agree about the homage thing
Mr Wilsdorf and Rolex is a clever company. Most of the horology leading up to the modern Rolex, have been acquired though the ages,so why not copy the looks of the Blancpain.

Yep, John and Padi, I believe you are historically correct! The BP came first. Rolex just did a better marketing job. Wasn't the BP primarily in military use?

Looks like a Hirsch Carbon strap. I have a couple of carbon's, but not Hirsch. They aren't very comfortable to me. I guess it's the stitching or the edges.

Yes Bruce, I believe they are WG. All Rolex hands and dial markers are gold to combat oxidization.
