Service thoughts...
According to Rolex and most reputable watch makers, a Rolex that is worn daly should be serviced every 5 or 6 years...
But what if you wear it less??? I currently have 4 watches that I wear equally (More or less) each year... So that would mean that each watch gets worn about 3 months a year... Now I know that seals dry out and that oil will eventually dry out but not nearly as fast if the watch isn't running...(Or so I'm told?!) So what does that mean, a service every 20 years for these watches??? Just food for thought... |

In case you missed it, here's an interesting perspective in maintenance from a well-regarded vintage expert.

I would still get them serviced when they say. Just the fact that sitting in your case or safe the oil and seals with "go". Might not affectt he time keeping but may wear on the parts. For as much as it is to get them serviced i would do that. I know its tough to want to spend $200-300 (or more depending) for it to get serviced but its like letting your car sit in the garage and only take it out for a spin a couple times a year. You just want to keep the fluids clean and good.
In the end its you choice but depending on the investment you may want to invest the money in keeping them in good shape. |
