DOT vs AMPM

Well this must be a regular a very good problem to have for future 233 owners at some point...

DOT vs AMPM

Aside from the noticeable price differences on both....
Cleaner dial of DOT and busy dial of AMPM...
Rumored or fact movement problem of DOT 233...

What's your take ?

Tried both and really mesmerize with either one
the DOT

the AMPM

The movement is identical between the two variants. There were some issues on I and some J serial models where the PR indicator would get stuck. Pretty much fixed under warranty and problems no longer appeared on K serial onward.

As for dot vs am/pm, entirely personal preference. I get the am/pm hand momentarily confused with the sec hand. Dot is more intuitive for me.

Something about Panerais that says less is more. The dot. AM/PM doesn't look bad, though. I was even going to buy a SE 391. Indeed a beautiful watch.

DOT... yes, I own an AM/PM and I love it, but the DOT is more... Paneristi
I'd love to find an interview with any OP exec stating their reasons for switching to the new format... As noted above, MAKE SURE that the PR indicator does not stick!!! Ask the seller to let it wind down just before you go to buy it; that should [hopefully] be enough to verify it. I also read somewhere that there is a visible difference between the old and new PR-indicator slots... you may want to research that too...

Good luck

My dealer tried to steer me away from the 233 because of the sticky PR. I asked in another thread if anyone had experienced it in the later models, but got no response.

Define later models; if you mean AM/PMs - they do not have the sticky-fang problem because the dial was redesigned to eliminate the problem. Furthermore, the IJK DOT models that stuck were sent in for a modified dial and/or to have the dial realigned. The tolerances were too tight and hence, if the dial was ever so slightly off, the fang would get stuck...

in the not so distant future.

Dot.
Anyone know why they changed it?
They should have given it new model number maybe.

1. wider slot for the reserve indicator hand
2. changing the GMT dot to a AM/PM dial like on the 270
