Time for my first Panerai!

Need some advice. My wife freed up some money from HER bonus (yes I have a great wife) to by my first PAM. I will be buying off the forum not new and need help figuring out which one. The Criteria, Brushed case, Luminor case and 44mm those are absolutes. Prefer sandwich dial, no extra complications, and in house movement. Last but not least my budget is $5,000. Advise please.

It's not completely one sided, my wife gets my Air King when I get the PAM!

Is there a PAM with in-house movement under $5000? If you have maybe closer to $6000, you might be able to get a used 312.

I agree, in house movements are at least $6k. By the way, that is a stunning Air King. No wonder your wife "freed up" money for your Pam...

Yup, a gently worn 312 should be right around $6k, depending on the total package. I just happened to pick one up myself - just arrived today actually. For a 'first pam', I think it's solid choice.

$5K won't happen unless it's watch only, which I would never do.

Used 312 will get you there (with a bit more cash), but it's a 1950 case, so, be sure it site well on your wrist.

You would be into $6000 for a 312. But honestly, a base historic (non inhouse movement) is a perfect PAM!
have fun hunting...

Agree that 5k will not get you in house movement. 312 is entry for in house. Retail is over 8 but can be found around 6 used.
If 5k is your budget I'd go for a 111.
You get your 44mm Luminor with sandwich dial and seconds function only.
Beautiful PAM!

Very wise to set your limit at $5000. Don't tempt yourself to exceed that figure because there's no end to elasticity. PAM with outhouse movement should be fine and probably easier to service anyway. And your wife gets a nifty vintage Rolex.

agreed. nothing wrong with outhouse calibres

my 196 daylight was one of my best buys based on features and overall execution. no issues with it either.

Older vintage $$$ models have Rolex movements, but I'm sure we all agree that's another story ENTIRELY :)

Thank you I wear it almost everyday and if it wasn't for the size I would not be picking up another but the 34mm for daily wear has just become small for me and my wife said I could still wear it on occasion for dress purposes!
and as for the PAM I would consider used also that is how I hoped to get in house movement in the 5k range.

If you can find a 312 for 5K, that would be one heck of a deal.

I doubt you'll find in-house near $5k.
