Newbie SD question

I've been looking long and hard at Sea-Dwellers. One thing I've seen is that sometimes on the watches I've seen posted the HE valve looks like it has a brightly polished finish, and other times it has a darker dull look. Are there variations based upon production years?

I don't know about the earlier versions but on my 2007 4000ft, I believe the HE valve is titantium. However, I had it serviced by Rolex UK this year and it looks as though it's been replaced by a SS one, as it looks shiny compared to the Ti.

The safest place for your watch is on your wrist.

I remember noticing that too when I was looking a little while back. Would be curious to know the answer. I think mines about 2007 and not the darker HE valve but more shiny like the polished side of the watch in which the valve is inset.

I'e like to know myself too. Mine it's a 2008 M series I've used for barely a month and the valve is on the "polish-y" side look.

I have an F series (2004) SD and the titanium He valve is darker grey when compared to the surrounding case, FWIW

I feel better now. I thought it was really a newbie question, but it seems I've stumped a bunch of folks here.

In any event, I'm now pretty sure that the watches I've seen with these traits are genuine. Before investigating I thought it might have been a tell for a fake.

It might be that the titanium is polished at service and it can be polished to a good shine, titanium forms a dark gray oxidized layer pretty quickly which would account for the differences.
