Scratches from daily wear!
Hey Guys, Long time reader first time posting. I got my Rolex DSSD a few months back and i would like to know how most owners handle when they found new scratches on their Rollies. Every now and then i find new scratches on mine and feels a bit of pain and i move on, then rinse and repeat. What do you guys feel about yours. Just wondering

Ah yes, scratches ... it's a fact of life unless you baby them!
I've got a gold GMT and Daytona, as well as SS models ... gold scratches way more easily than SS ... you just have to learn to not worry about it, scratches, as long as they aren't unsightly, add character to the watch :-) P.S. I see that you are in Australia, welcome! I'm in Melb! |

It just a part of the enjoyment. I remember when I knicked by DD -- I remember exactly where I was: having dinner with my wife after a shitty day at the office, she surprised me in the lobby and already had made reservations.
I smile about it when I see that knick. Enjoy it - it's meant to be worn. |

You have to accept the fact that scratches will happen to anything that you wear on a daily basis. They are, as you experience, little things that shape your own personality. The good news is - with a watch it can be refreshed to "as new" with each service interval. Wish I could say the same for a spa visit. :) Welcome to TRF.

I accept the fact as they are "individual features" that make my watch unique!

funny you should mention it... the dssd is a scratch magnet due to size... bigger the watch, bigger the scratch. i don;t wear mine often but it has above average hairlines compared to my other models.

Hi! I've gotten a couple from the Hour Glass (was able to negotiate some good prices), another from a trusted TRF seller here, and some from a grey dealer located here in Melb too!

It happens, but I don't go out of my way to put them in. Example of things I do are, I use two mouse pads, when I play cards I put a towel on the left side of table. I take off my watch before working on car, outside work etc. Lastly, I don't hand my watch to my girlfriend without supervision. Last week, I get an AP Royal Oak Safari, I show to my significant other and she puts it on her wrist knocking against her DJ. I explained any time metal touches metal you put a scratch on.

Fact of life...I don't wear my watch when I'm doing something that would cause gratuitous scratches (e.g. construction projects at home, when I don't need to know what time it is). But, I got my watch with the intention of wearing it every day (which I do) instead of trotting it out for special occasions (which I do, for example, with a nice bracelet my husband got me).
I kind of think of my watch akin to my car...my car cost many more times what my watch did, but I did not buy it to park it in my garage and keep it pristine. I got it, of course, to drive every day. So, while I'm not careless with my car, driving it means it will get dinged, the kids will get it dirty, etc. If I had, say, a collectors' car such as a vintage Ferrari, then it might be a different story, but with a car to be driven daily, such things happen. |

Daily wear scratches I don't care about. I have a RG Daytona, so it scratches very easily. If the scratch was big, like I accidentally knocked it against the wall, then yeah, I'd bother me for a little bit.

I put my first major ding in my Rolex about a week or so ago. When I first did it, it looked like the Grand Canyon. But the guys here said, "give it time. It will shrink" They were right. Now I barely notice it.

The more you have the less you care. Besides, the scratches make you look more interesting

The first scratch hurt a lot, the second not quite so much and now, though I don't go out of my way to add or avoid them, if I get a scratch, then so be it. They're part and parcel of wearing your watch.

Must say I'm guilty of removing scratches that I feel I can get rid of without making things worse and removing metal... So far, I've been lucky not to get deep scratches and dings in my Rolex watches. Should that happen, I'd cry but leave them alone to have RSC fix when that time comes.

The oyster bracelet and the clasp cover are the most scratched areas. I remove the bracelet and clean and polish it about three to four times a year.
I am not a watchmaker, but I do enjoy bracelet maintenance. I never do DYI at home wearing the Rolex. I have a G Shock for that purpose. |

DSSD Scratches
Don't sweat it. Even what Rolex RSC told me made me feel like crap when I saw their evaluation of my watch. They saw scratches that I myself didn't even know it had. But due to the size you will bump in to things and believe it or not, I accidently hit my neice on the head with it. She was at the wrong place at the wrong time. My DSSD was ok though.
