submariner II

I read lots of comments about some people wish Rolex would make a larger model sub like the the following models that got bigger.....

datejust II

day date II

oyster perpetual got bigger....34mm to 36mm

explorer got bigger.....36mm to 39mm

do you think there will be a submariner II??

a daytona II??

how many people want a bigger sub?? and how many people think it's perfect the way it is??

who's sick of Rolex making the whole line of watches bigger??

I personally feel the only model that got improved was the oyster perpetual.....at 34mm it was too small, at 36mm it's perfect

not a big fan of the datejust II or day date II

I'm perfectly happy with the current 40-41mm that they have for some of the models and sports series that Rolex have. Any bigger may not be better!

Maxi case helped with the bigger look without increasing the demensions. I think it's perfect the way it is.

doesent matter whos sick of rolex getting bigger. IF they dont they will lose the next generation of buyers. I myself simply will not purchase a watch under 42mm ever. i owned a sub LV and it was way to small. many women are opting to wear 40mm watches these days. Rolex like it or not will adjust. i think we will all see a 42mm sub AND daytona sooner rather than later.

A 42 sub would make it look like any of those sub wanna-be already out there.

But if rolex ever decide to 42 size their sub, i'm sure they will do a good job, and everyone would still be buying it. Its the rolex submariner after all. A dream watch for many boys growing up, like i did.

Not everyone is going to have the same taste or preference. I've had 4 Rolex watches in the past which were all 40mm and didn't think it was small. However, now that I've been wearing a 43mm Panerai for several years, the 40's do appear to be a bit small. I would like to own a Rolex again and I'm looking at the Sub C but will admit, I'm having a difficult time moving down in size. Love the size of the DSSD and might go with that but I know that if they made a 43 Daytona, that would my first choice. I guess it all comes down to what you are used to wearing.

If you want bigger then a Sub shouldn't you just go with the DSSD model?

Rolex makes a watch for everyone. If you want large, they offer the DSSD and new Explorer 2, if you want normal sized like the GMT and Sub, you can have that. If you want understated, there is the DJ 36mm, AK, OP, Date etc. giant versions of the classics aren't going to bode well

40 or 42mm is it really that big of a difference? No matter what size they make it, a Sub is a Sub, true classic

For me 40mm is a perfect size, not too large not too small. I'm not very comfortable wearing anything bigger than 40mm as I feel it grabs too much attention but that is just me, I am only 23 but I know that many of my friends and people of my general love the bigger sized watches like Panerai and lesser known brands that have super huge watches. I like something a little more understated, I don't care if other people notice my watch or not as long as I know what I'm wearing and that I'm wearing the best watch brand in the world. But in general I am more of an understated guy, don't wear any jewelry of any sorts besides a watch and keep my clothes plain and simple.

I am currently hoping to buy a Hulk within the next couple months if my work continues to do well and I wouldn't buy it if it was 42mm as the green will get enough attention as it is, the 40mm with the new case is perfect (my dad has a GMT2C and that feels just perfect on my wrist bordering on just a tad bit too large).

I wouldn't like to see Rolex follow the trend of bigger watches as they have always been trend-setters and I enjoy seeing them do their own thing because they can afford to.

I think the sub is just right at 40mm and in a nod to its heritage I would prefer it to stay that size.

I agree as well, a 42 might not be bad. I'm just not as open minded when I didn't think sub had any flaws in the first place. but then again some people say it feels so small on them, because the trend lately is bigger the better.

Like i said I just wished a new variety of dials and metals would be used.
I am not much of a fan of Stick dials and I'm sure a lot would disagree
but I think a short stick dial would be pretty interesting, dark sun dials
White gold and different dial/bezel option. different lumen color option , current is fine and all because blue is new to me still.. How ever sometimes it's too bright and I'm not using it as a tool (thus i went with diamond dial option before) I love the old sub blue's not the new wg bright smurfy blue.
Just too light for me

I'm not saying venture into the DJ/DD style with a whoooooole lot of variety but give sub's alittle bit of character !
I'm aware of aftermarket options but I'm into factory quality

Awful idea. Why on earth would someone want a bigger sub?
40mm is big enough.

I'd love to see the Sub be a serious diver's watch again, go back to Rolex's classic design school. Maybe a modest increase to 42mm, classic shape case with bevelled edges, matte bezel, matte dial without WG surrounds, the bracelet from the Pelagos, and a next-generation movement. That would be as close as you can get to the ultimate dive watch, IMO

A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to be able to acquire a new SubC ND.

My financial priorities would not allow me to keep my previous watch - an Omega PO LM LE 42mm - I was quite worried about the drop in size to the Sub 40mm...... but I needn't have.

The Sub size is perfect for me and to be honest I now can't remember the Omega looking any bigger.

So to answer the OP's question - no - I think the present size is perfect - a large part of it's heritage - and really IMO unnecessary.

Agreed they should do a special heritage edition a la Tudor based on a vintage sub...

(Insert pic of General Wingate with alarm clock hanging from wrist here)

I think generally watches are getting too big. If you can't look at the top of your wrist and see the shoulders of the bracelet or strap along with the watch head, then it's too big for you.

I also wish that Rolex would return to matte dials for their tool watches.

I don't see Rolex following the bigger is better fad. Rolex progresses at the speed of a glacier. That is what makes Rolex Rolex.

Chris,

the newer subs may have added some questionable styling points, but i don't think they gave up anything in the way of dive-ability?

the modern Sub still maintain the same more than adequate depth performance and they are still made of durable steel ... they have increased in price but thats the way things go.

the visibility of the hour plots and hands are improved and the adjustability on the bracelet has been made more versatile.

a matte dial & bezel would be lovely along with plainer plots without WG surrounds, but i don't necessarily think that would improve performance beyond the slightest degree?

just some sub love here

now if they would put lugholes back in the watch... id buy two
