Yellow Gold GMT II vs Rose Gold Day Date II President
Hey Everyone,
I am trying to decide between a Yellow Gold GMT II and a Rose Gold Day Date II President with a chocolate dial. Both watches are beautiful in their own way. I have never owned a gold watch before, so I am not sure which gold to pick (yellow or rose). I'm a younger guy, so I'm thinking rose gold is more suitable. Would appreciate any ideas/suggestions! |

Either watch would be a great piece to own. But I would agree that for a young(er) buyer, the rose gold option would be the way to go. Post some pics once you've pulled the trigger.

I actually bought my first Day Date at 27 ...
... in 1991. And even though it was white gold I still felt slightly conspicuous being so young in a watch the "uninformed" call The President lol. I ended up trading it away for a GMT I in YG with the jubilee bracelet and black dial/bezel. I really enjoyed that watch but the Jubilee bracelet worried me as far as a lot of wear and being 18K was concened. So traded it for a black dial/bezel 18K Sub. REALLY loved that one. Then I hit forty (8 years ago :() and the yearning for the Day Date returned. And even though I am NOT the president of anything, the fact that I am getting gray around the edges told me I managed to look the part so I went back to the Day Date (but this time a 118206). I know that was a long way to saying get the GMT :). Enjoy -Ron

If you told me to pick one it would be the DDII chocolate dial.

Some considerations.
DDII -fluted bezel. Catches and reflects light more, so stands out more. Edges of fluted bezel are also more prone to accidental damage that the ceramic bezel of a gold GMT. Presidential bracelet. Solidly built, but more play in the links that an Oyster bracelet of the GMT. Adjustment - no micro-adjustment available on a DD. GMT - Not as as 'blingy' IMO that a DDII. Ceramic bezel stands up to more day to day damage and will look good forever. Bracelet - Oyster. Very very solidly built. Easy link extension, and micro-adjustment possible on the clasp. Just some things to consider when deciding ... :-) |

Tough choice but YG for me.
I have the 116718 but bought it before the RG DDII was introduced. Good luck. No wrong choice there. |

The Day-Date once was my grail gold Rolex but I've changed my mind since then...
Now, I'd prefer the GMT II 116718 due to the size that fits my wrist better, and because of the Easylink that does come in handy during those hotter days... the DD hasn't got any fine adjusting feature in the clasp. You only have the option to remove or add links (latter is expensive!). Besides that, re-sale value of the GMT II 116718 generally is higher than the DD..

Although not a huge fan of precious metal watches if I had to choose it would be the Rose gold.

I'm not a fan of the DDII but I do love Rolex's Everose gold. However, if it's going to be your first gold one I'd go with yellow (and a green dial on the GMT but that's just me).

In terms of gold color, I prefer yellow on my skin only b/c I am so fair-skinned I'm already pink, and the rose gold washes out. I really admire the rose gold with darker skin tones, but there white gold looks great, too. As far as the watch model, that's tough. If I'm being honest with myself, the GMTII is more attractive. I prefer the size and look of the sport Rolex, but I have huge respect for the DD as an icon. But daily wearer? Definitely GMT.

Both watches are incredible looking. If you are a bit of a traveller, you might enjoy the GMT II more and its a little sportier than the DD II. I personally like the Everose gold with the chocolate dial. That watch is banging

really depends on you,
I bought my gf, the Rose gold / Chocolate dial President II (saturday) she absolutely loves it. Have you ever looked at the YG options for President ? Also very nice I don't have a YG GMT II , but I do have a WG GMT II if you need pics to compare side by side, I'll upload some tonight if you want. Just let me know |

That is a tough one. I love both of those pieces. If it was my call I think I would end up going for the YG GMT II,, I think.
