AP as daily driver?? Why not?

I read a lot of comments on here from people saying that they would not have an AP for their daily watch. I see it a lot for Royal Oaks (which I am particularly interested). Is this solely based on the fact that the finishes are so perfectly executed and the bezels are subject to being easily scratched? I mean if you didn’t care how much the watch got scratched would you still not use it daily? I guess I am just trying to figure out the basis of this statement.

I have a Sub-C. I wear it everywhere and anywhere not worrying about scratches. I want a ROO Diver. I have gotten advice in the past on here telling me to keep the Sub cause I wouldn’t want to use the AP daily…then what is the point??

Does anyone wear their AP RO all day, everyday? Anyone have pics of a daily worn AP…scratches and all???

Russ, maybe the carbon Diver would be a good option for you? There's no reason a RO couldn't be used daily except the owner's sensitivities. If you don't mind the scratches then there's no issue.

The day I bought it:

A couple of weeks ago:

Yes, any AP can be a daily driver, and no, they don't scratch simply by looking in their general direction.

So basically it all comes down to wether or not you want your watch to look like the day you bought it for as long as you own it? I am all for taking care of things, trust me. I just don't like to pamper things by not using them.

You would be correct, but the carbon Diver just doesn't do it for me. I don't mind scracthes to a certain extent, haha. I wouldn't intentionally scratch it or anything like that, but stuff happens...

That is what I'm thinking. Just wanted to make sure there was nothing I was missing besides scratches.

At least twice a week...

Yes, it's earned a couple of scratches while fighting the good fight, but as you can see, they're not significant enough to show up in photos; it's a great watch, and one that doesn't require babying.

Obviously, YMMV, but so long as you're not using it to hammer nails, there's no reason to expect that it won't hold up well over the long haul.

Adam

Nope, just scratches and dings like any other watch.

Complete BS. There is NOTHING wrong with wearing any AP (with a few exceptions) for daily duty. I've been wearing my new ROC for months and it looks brand new with not a mark on it. I am careful with it, but don't baby it. Buy whatever you like and wear it as much as you please. And then in a few years, send it back to AP for service and they will polish it back to new again and repeat.

That's pretty impressive. I'm not so carefully with my watches, I've cracked the Saphire on two separate Rolexes of mine, and all my Rolexes look we'll loved. I picked up and AP Royal Oak dual time a few months ago and it does take scratches pretty easilly. That doesn't really bother me though, I like look of worn watch, but that my preference. It's a fact that the AP will show more wear than a steel Rolex, but both will show wear if you don't baby them, so it's really a personal judgment call.

My Bumble Bee looks brand new day in and day out.. Love forged carbon and ceramic :) I got sick of beating up my high polished watches lol (still have them all) but something so nice about dailying a substantial piece and not having to worry!

Ability to attract scratches shouldn't the deciding factor. If you prefer the style, weight, movement, interface of the ROO Diver over the Sub then get it at use it.

Make sure you spend some time trying it on. As much as I adore the clean design at the end, after some use, I realized that it wasn't comfortable on my wrist; the lume wasn't good enough to last through the night and the internal bezel with a left-side crown is quirky to use.

Best of luck with the decision.

In my experience, most contacts with the Divers bezel left a mark, where the Bee just shrugged them off.

However, in fairness, it's high level of finishing was never gonna be robust in SS.

Just down to what you can stand.

Definitely good to go as a daily wear. Of course, there might be some scratches and dings in some time, but most of them will go away after the 'spa'. Why not?

p/s: The virgin scratch is pain as hell, you will be fine after that.

I wear every AP I own with no worries... My daily is a rubberclad and sure it's got some nicks and a light scratch here or there, but still shines and makes me smile every day!

sure, why not, IF you can stand the inevitable scratches on the bezel. i had a 16570 and the bezel scratches were one of the main reasons why i had to let it go. case, bracelet, etc. scratches are fine, but, the bezel is, to me, a frame for the dial, so, seeing scratches bugged me. oh well. others, obviously, don't have this OCD.

I hear you and 100% agree re bezel damage.

Shame you can't easily swap them out - that would be great

They may not be changable in the way that the bands on Panerais are, but if it gets too bad you can have them replaced, right? How much would that cost? on a ROO, RO, ROC???

I wear my FC daily, I don't swap it out till nights out... I also wore my AP perpetual calendar almost daily.
As Martin mentioned, the FC case and ceramic bezel make it (thus far) scratch proof and new looking.

the AP diver is a decent daily wearer but not an all the time wearer. If you try to make the AP diver your "One watch" you will find yourself taking it off for long periods of time and setting it on the desk, counter or nightstand throughout the day.

some examples of activites where I took off my AP Diver:

1. when working at my desk, typing on the computer
2. cooking
3. sex

because those activities comprise the bulk of my daily life, the ap diver was not a suitable One watch for me

Hmmm...
1. At least 12 hours of my day
2. 1 hr per day
3. Whatever is left...

I see what you mean tho. I would also think that I'd take the AP off for more reasons than I take my Sub off.

I wear ALL my watches in rotation. INCLUDING the Diver. it actually gets less marks because its on a rubber strap than my gmtIIc. the bracelet is what gets scratched up on my watches. im not in a position to spend that much $$$ and feel like i cant wear it.
