How many winds...

...do people recommend to give a Diver.

I know the manual says 30 - but have read online people suggesting much less.

Can it cause any damage or is the mechanism disengaged once fully wound?

Cheers!

20-30 is fine. Nothing will happen to it as it won't over wind.

Cool...how do you know when it is fully wound?

Does the clicking change?

I have only done it around 10 times so far as I was being cautious not to over wind!

10 usually gets my watches going, tho I prefer to shake them gently instead of winding.

I usually wind 30-40 times.

You won't be able to tell. The crown feels the exact same way. I typically stop winding via the crown once the second hand starts moving around.

You can't hurt it by overwinding

Really?

I've just wound it and the sensation when winding definitely changes suddenly after 20+ turns.

It starts as a very soft regular clicking then feels slightly firmer and the clicking is slightly louder and less frequent - this clicking continues as you screw the crown back in.

Is it just me?

I think so! It might just be in your head. Don't sweat it.

I think you are right - I am just not used to the feeling when winding and screwing the crown as it is quite different to my Submariner which I have had as my only watch for the last 6 years!

Think I just need to get used to the different feel!

Worrying too much

If manual says 30, just do 30. I doubt anyone knows the watch better than the guys who built them.

I left it overnight after a full wind (about 14 hours ago) and just wound it up again...the first couple of turns were the soft clicking...then the feeling/sound when winding definitely changes - and feels as if it is fully wound.

It is worrying me that you say there is absolutely no change in how the winding sounds/feels once fully wound because I can certainly tell you on my watch there is.

Can any one else clarify this for me - as I will have to take it in to a service center if not to get it looked at if it is just mine...I would rather not have to though as it's a brand new watch and the service center is 150 miles away!

EDIT: It is a Diver (not sure if that makes any difference)

But what if I miss count? Start over?

Sod it - it's working perfectly - I think I am just being overly anal about things...bloody OCD mixed with buying a watch which I probably couldn't afford in the first place causing me to worry!

So what if I notice the clicking changes when it's fully wound?! ...at least I know when it's wound!

Think I need to go and have a drink!
