AP Bands hard to make?

I have been told by a couple people who make bands for other company's watches that they do not put effort into making bands for AP because they are more of a challenge to make with the unique strap setup. But honestly, looking at it...I may be nieve, it looks like almost a regular strap then you punch out to marks where the metal adapter that's unique to ap would go? Not too hard

Does anyone think the lack of 3rd party straps is really due to the fact that it may be challenging to make (although I don't think it would be that more challenging than normal) or do you think it's more so just due to the demand (lack there of) and the size of the market based off the number of watches produced vs say Panerai?

Just pondering.....

Well i agree on AP bands being very pricey.
However they do their own bands themselves when 90% of all other manufactures buy their logo from the biggest strap manufacture in the world.

I'm sure market demand is part of it but it is a difficult strap to do right. There's a metallic piece embedded in the strap ends that mate to the plots. Could you make straps without the inserts? Sure but that would change the angle off the lugs and aesthetically change the appearance of the watch.

I also think that many AP owners don't fuss with to much strap changing, a little here and there but not much.
