Bad day!!! DSSD epic fail !!!!!

Went riding to go get a frap and when I put on my seatbelt I accidentally hit my DSSD crystal with the metal part of the seat belt. I then looked for the damage and expecting the worst......Then I saw it....there it was......a scratch on the crystal !!!! ....of my DSSD. I could not believe and there I was at the stop sign staring at my watch in disbelief. I am not a scratch and ding OCD type of person but a deep scratch on my DSSD crystal is totally not acceptable. I still got 2 to 3 years left before my watch is due for a service. Now I don't know if I should send it in for a crystal replacement or just keep using it as is. Now the scratch looks like a huge mole just staring at me. It seems to be a surface scratch with a little depth. Does anyone know how much its going to be for a new crystal? Should I just ignore it until my next service?

Replace it - you won't be able to ignore it - it's gonna jump at you, every time you look at the watch !

A simple crystal replacement will do under 200$ Dont let a scatch on a watch ruin your Christmas!

Sorry this happened. It is just cosmetic as many I am sure will tell you but this would drive me nuts! I am OCD about something like this and it would be all I see when I look at the watch. I am sure the watch will not need a service for a few more years given they have not been out too terrible long so I would most likely have to pony up and pay to have the crystal replaced. I understand it does not take away from the function of the watch but would severly take away from my enjoyment of the watch.

It's an adventure watch. Let it have some adventure and don't worry about little things like scratches.

Don't let it ruin your holiday. About $200 will solve the problem. Happy holidays.

Sorry to hear...

Personally I would leave it until service time. Imho it's better to reduce the number of times a watch is worked on (for cosmetics, I mean). Perhaps give it a few weeks and see how you feel. The watch will pick up various scratches and nicks, so better to have it all dealt with in one go

Yikes. I'm sorry to hear what happened. Have you ever heard of using diamond paste and dremel drill? It works for minor scratches on sapphire crystals. It's worth a shot if you already have the drill. Quality paste can be obtained from the internet under $20.

DSSD crystals only cost $200?

If it only costs 200 then not a problem. I will definitively have it replaced at the next service. I was thinking it would cost like a 1000 or so. If the ceramic bezel costs more than that, I would imagine the crystal would not be far behind.

Sorry to hear about this. Not sure if the cost reference holds true, however if it is roughly $200 I say follow this advice & just replace it if it is going to bother you.

Dude, I am uber impressed by you. Not all men can take constructive criticism and rebound like a champion!!!!! I am super super impressed and thank you for your excellence.

A bad day indeed, and I totally empathize with you. I too would probably get it fixed. It looks like it would be fine, but I get paranoid about water getting in and whatnot.

Let us know how it goes and what happened. I hope it is an easy and smooth mending...

She's got a point though.

.... diamond paste and mucho effort might make good, or at least reduce the notice-ability.

A watch made for 10,000 feet under the sea... yet not up to the task of picking up a "frap" on Christmas day.
