The watch in this forum is syncronized with the watch at your computer so that means that it is accurate. It's great that your watch is accurate enjoy it

It is as exactly as exact as the PC clock of your PC since it draws its time from the PC clock (like the flash clocks by Jeff "Colemanitis") do, btw.).

Only because your PC is synced to the accurate time. With all due respect, Bo is correct saying the web site "is exact as the PC clock of your PC". To prove this, simply set the time on your PC to an incorrect time, refresh the rolexforums website and there you go.... wrong time. I suggest people use accurist123.com or time.gov for a standard.

Respects returned ... I guess what I meant to say was the website cited above is dead-on accurate regardless of what your computer clock may say. You must be right in assuming the site is connected to NIST. That's pretty good considering network latency often puts displays like that off a bit.
I was not comparing that site's time to my computer clock. I was comparing it to the three other 'atomic' clocks I own, Waveceptor watch and the shortwave signal direct from Boulder, CO. I've been fooled by the display at the top of this page before. It, as well as the Flash clocks available here for wallpaper use, sync to your PC's clock which may, or may not, be accurate.

My PC's clock seems right on with the other internet reference times, but why?
I use Windows XP with this computer, and the clock came with the operating system. How does it know the time? I've never set it. |

Your PC's clock will sync w/time.windows.com on boot up and once a week or so if left running. If you're running XP, you can go to your clock settings and click on the "Internet Settings" tab to force an update or choose a time site. To change the interval, you have to change a value in the registry. Time sync is built in to XP but can be off a bit over the course of a week or if you have a crash.

I have tried numerous times to have my PC clock syncronised by either time.gov, time.nist.gov or accurist123.com, but all sites fail syncronisation!

There are many utilities to sync your clock. I use one by AnalogX and it's free. I must admit, I haven't had any luck forcing an update using the XP "Update Now" button. It reports an error every time I try. Using the AnalogX 'Atomic Time Sync' you can set the interval of update, pick the server of your choice and it can also sync other PC's on your network if you want. For more info read HERE

Hi Bo,
I had a similar problem. My computer would update the time on schedule but would always fail a manual update with different errors shown - then suddenly the manual update started working - it must be a file error that somehow fixed itself. You can type in the correct time if you are really keen.

I have noted that the PC clock actually keeps WORSE time than my SS Cos, btw! But as said, I correct the PC clock (and with that also Jeff's flash clock) every now and then.

HERE'S another link with info about setting up Windows for time sync... There are some troubleshooting tips that may help resolve errors you are encountering (ie firewall, w32time service, etc.)...

Ok... just set my firewall to allow incoming traffic on UDP Port 123 for Windows components ONLY and... clock just updated successfully using time.windows.com. I do love a challenge...
Another interesting site for security is GRC or Gibson Research Corp. Steve Gibson has been in the network security biz for a long time. I would encourage anyone to use his ShieldsUp test to see just how vulnerable your computer is from the outside world. Here's the link... https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 I just used it to test and see if Port 123 was open and available from a hacker's perspective. Came up clean...
