Honest opinion....

Guys,

Wanted to get an idea on what my watch is valued at, approached a local watch blog to get some feedback as they seem like an interesting bunch....

Pretty much came back with, its worth about 3K... cause no bracelet or box/papers....

Whilst I'm looking at other avenues of getting it valued, I was rather upset at this comment ....

I know its probably worth a lot more to me, and I might be dreaming....
But the watch is all original and it's a gilt from 1966, and been in the family since early 70's....

any feedback on rough value appreciated...

Welcome to the Forum!

We have rules in the Forum regarding valuation questions (see below):

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=263244

Search for your year model gilt and you will be surprised on the value of that watch!

If the OP knows it is a gilt than he knows a bit about these watches. I therefore think he also knows the answer to his question.

From the top view, I can see chamfers and some seriously thick crown guards for a watch that age.

Uh yeah, way more than 3k

I agree. This guy is more knowledgeable than he is letting on. Nice watch though.

My guess is he not aware of the meaning of gilt dial.
He posted at other watch blogs and the so call experts there pointed to him a "gilt dial" and hence his knowledge of gilt.

Best bet is to check ebay and see...

heres one that recently sold here, and I think yours is a bit better condition so i could see you getting +/- $1500 to that price

Please do not confuse 5512 and 5513. The watch in the listing you pointed to a 5512. This watch is a 5513. Yes, it is worth more than $3K, but I agree with forum rules, let the poster do some research first.

As far as gilt - "gilt == yellow" Early Subs (from 1953 to 64) had glossy finish and gilt writing. Later Rolex switched to matte finish and white writing.

guys,

not trying to get post count up .....

just wanted to get some opinions thats all...

As i have seen gilt's start off at 3k mark on ebay (pretty ordinary condition) , but also have seen some for 15k buy it now price.... so its a bit of sliding scale based on condition, so I find it hard trying to get an accurate price on it....

is there such thing as a pricing scale for these watches ?????

Gilt dials have gold colored lettering on the dial instead of white. Your watch is substantially higher than what you were quoted.
