Question... Holograms on Rolex crystals
So a Buddy tells me today that a small hologram of the Rolex Crown is on all Rolex watches on the crystal. Told me he took a laser beam on his 08' SeaDweller and found a small Crown on the crystal at the 6:00 position. I took out my DeepSea and used a magnifying glass and had no such luck. Ive never heard about this and always thought I was on top of my game when it came to Rolex. So.. To my Brothers and Sisters of the forum, whats your take on this?
As always thank you for the help and stay thirsty my friends....SV |

It's actually etched on the crystal, at the 6 oclock position. Someone with more knowledge will chime in when Rolex began this procedure.

When was your watch manufactured? What is the letter of the serial number?

It's technical not etched. It's actually IN the glass - little bubbles in the glass that form a crown.

Rolex started this as a standard feature in the 2002 line to present.

To see it get a flashlight app for your phone. Place the phone light on the phone a 12 and the LEC will pop out.

Here you go... the LEC (laser etched crown) On my F serial GMT...
Cant remember what serial range they began doing this, pretty sure its in the last decade... I had a really difficult time seeing it with the naked eye (and I have 20/15 vision ) It is easiest to see if you flash a light at just the right angle...

I cant see it with the naked eye on my 116234 with a silver dial, I need a flashlight.
I can easily see them with the naked eye on a watch with a black dial though, like on my SubC. |

An LED flashlight is the easiest way to make the laser-etched coronet (LEC) pop.

One thing I do know, if you had a replacement crystal at some point it may not be centered over the six position but will still be there with a small "S" over the crown.

They can be hard to find on genuine Rolexes, but are just not there on replicas. Better send it to me for further examination...

The crystal on the DSSD is convex, making it a bit more difficult to find the LEC. With a little manipulation and a nice LED flashlight, you should be able to see it.

There are definately fakes out there with the LEC in the crystal, don't assume a watch is genuine just because it has an LEC
