Well, perhaps that AD was a little unlucky that he sees one of the few actual Daytonas that are presented at the Daytona 24. 999 times out of 1000, a caseback with the Daytona engraving is a fake. However, perhaps the AD should have been paying a little bit more attention to current events, he might have saved himself a lot of embarrassment

Maybe it was a fake. I mean the CEO of Rolex is neither an AD nor a trusted TRF seller, so who knows?

That's hilarious! Hopefully that jeweler finds out about this story and realizes how much of an idiot he is!

While we're chuckling at this story, I recall many here on TRF who called Scooter Gabel's 2007 Rolex 24 winning Daytona a fake when he tried selling it on eBay

i posted this on WUS too...
my thoughts: the DR. bought a fake to use daily and saved the real one in the bank vault... hence the battery changer called him out correctly... the Dr's ego led him to try to call out the battery changer because, well he actually does have a real rolex Daytona but it wasn't the one he took to the battery changer. why would you be embarrassed or too cheap to take it to Mayors jewelers in Tampa if it was the real deal??? I'm sure Mayors would've been super proud to size his Daytona. |

Ha! great story. even if the rolex CEO himself called this misinformed jeweler to correct him, that jeweler would probably just hang up the phone on him thinking its a prank call...

This is a comment to the article that I thought was pretty funny:

I think it is a pretty sad story. Makes you wonder how many other people this jeweler told that their Rolex was not real.

The story rings hollow to me.
In fact, I read a story many years ago that was just like it, except that it was a young irate woman with an unruly horse who refused equestrian advice from an elderly golfer who just happened to be a retired, famous jockey. Even the morals of the two stories are almost identical. I don't want to presume that anyone is being less than truthful here, but it seems that there's probably some artistic license at play.
