I'm considering a pre owned PAM 90. I like the thought of an automatic like my other watches (Rolex and Cartier). Are the automatic movements as good and accurate as the manuals? Any thoughts on this piece? Considerations for my first PAM?

The 90 is a fine watch. But there is a charm to the manual wind models. More regular interaction with the mechanics of the watch

I actually love the ritual of winding a watch and unless the rotor is particularly handsome the aesthetics of a display back are even better IMO.

auto is bulkier
but
i like it better if it is a daily wear.

I like the idea of an automatic, but the daily (or weekly) winding is enjoyable from a mechanical sense. Plus, for me many of the Panerai autos are too tall and top heavy.

Depends on your collection, but I love some good manuals in mine. Wouldn't want all of them to be, but a few is great. It's nice to interact with them.

I love my manual watches. It's more time I spend wit each one. Also, for me Panerai = manual.

PAMs and manual mvmts go hand in hand, but that's not to say you can't enjoy a nice 312...

The most important factor to me (aside from fit) is the power reserve. Automatics tend to have the shortest (a Valjoux is around 44hrs). I don't have a daily wearer so all my watches see some drawer time during the week. The Valjoux is the first to stop, followed by my ~56hr 6498. The 8-day 233 however is still powered up

If you really insist on an auto PAM I'd go with a 270 - that way you can put it down for a few days (... like 10 days!!!) and it will still be powered when you go to pick it up

The 3-days 312 (320, ...) will also do the trick - 72hrs is pretty impressive too...
