Crown differences
Why are the crowns different on my Daytona and explorer 2 the explorer is just underlined under the crown with a straight line but the Daytona has three spots under it instead of the line. Anyone know why this difference is on them?

The crown on the Explorer II is a twin lock and the crown on the Daytona is a triplock. The big difference is the gaskets inside the crown as far as being watertight.

Oh right, any idea why they only use the twin lock on the explorer? Out of the two you would imagine that the explorer would lead the harder life than the Daytona you would think it would be the other way round.

Here's the text to go with Kilyung's graphic.
Rolex Twin and Triple Lock Crowns Acero is Spanish for Steel Oro amarillo means Yellow Gold Oro blanco means White Gold Platino means Platinum Coronas means Crowns Most later model Rolex crowns show the newer version of the crown emblem. What is important to note are the markings located under the crown. These markings will tell you if the crown on your watch is either a Twinlock or a Triplock crown. In addition to the type of crown will be a series of dots or as shown, a single line dash. These dots and dashes will tell you the metal content of the crown on your Rolex. The chart above explains these markings. The English to Spanish translation is shown above the chart Note also the different sizes of the dots! Now, since year 2000, the DD is yet again availible in RG. There can be confusion with the YG TwinLock crown after year 2000 since the YG crown then also got two dots. To sum it up, the TwinLock crowns come with the following lines / dots: Steel: Line YG: Line. However, after year 2000: Two dots (6-digit ref. numbers) RG: Two dots WG: Two dots Platinum: ONE dot There only seems to be ONE exception; namely the RG crown of the Turn-O-Graph in SS/RG which for some odd reason has a LINE and not two dots like the RG crown of the DD in RG.

The two dot crowns are for all gold models ending in 9,8,or 5,
The gold crowns with a line are for models with steel/gold ending in 1,or 3

It would seem someone made a mistake when installing your crown as a 116613LB should have a 704-3 crown with three Dots of the same size. The 704-8 crown is typically used on all gold models. You could consider this an upgrade of sorts as the 704-8 crown contains more gold than the 704-3 crown. Was your watch serviced or is it untouched? :)

I wondered to why the explorer is only twin lock. In my mind it should be trip lock.

An old thread I know, but still Interesting, since I'm in the search for a new crown... You mentioned above.. " YG: Line. However, after year 2000: Two dots (6-digit ref. numbers)".. My TT DJ V serial dates 2008-09 w/6 digit reference #, has a single Bar under the crown, vs 2 dots as you mentioned.. ! Should I still be looking for a #24-600-8 crown..?? Thx for any info...
