looking at my milgauss... got a question

I got this off of another forum and found it quite interesting, and thought I would post it here and see what other people said...

I think the new Milgauss models are really sharp, especially the green crystal.

It's the second hand that BOTHERS me... I just don't understand the reasoning behind the "lightning bolt." design!

The Milgauss is intended for use around strong magnetic fields. It is NOT designed to resist electric current or static discharge.

What the heck does a lightning bolt have to do with magnetism?

Does this bother anyone else besides me?

When I look at the watch all I can think of is that anyone who actually NEEDS such a watch for its intended function would probably be aware of the scientific flaw in the design and think, like I do, that it's just plain silly! Such a silly, inappropriate detail should be expected on a toy, but not on a Rolex!!

Comments?

Well, as far as the design/aesthetics of the second hand I would tend to agree - no offense - but in regards to the relationship between electricity and magnestism I would say they are fundamentally linked.

So much so they are aspects of the same thing. :)

I dig the lightning bolt. Wish it was painted with orange luminova. That would be so cool!

Can't have electricity without magetism and vice versa. Also, the Lightning Bolt second hand is tradition. Earlier Milgauss watches had them, so the new one does too. Rolex is big on tradition.

No, just don't try to find shelter under a tree during a lightning storm and you'll be fine

Magnetism and electricity is linked together, but I would love to see a more conservative disign on the second hand. Actually, I don't personally need any extra magnetic protection, so my favourite watch would be an enlarged Air-King on the Milgauss case! I know the Milgauss is a classic Rolex model, but I think the Air-King is even more so! Anyway, AC/DC has this strong magnetic influence on my heart, it just sticks there!!!

The milgauss is kind of like an upsized DateJust without the date and a crooked second hand. Product diversification is one of the basic tenants of increasing total sales and market share.

I do like the second hand because it is different. The connection between lightning and magnetism does exist, but in the circumstances of the watch it is somewhat tenuous, but if it is different, adds fun and interest, why not.

One of my favorite songs of all time! AC/DC rocks, but I have never understood how the heck you can get struck by thunder

Now, getting struck by the Milgauss, I can easily see being that!
