arghhhhhhhhhhhhh

I have been owner of my grail RO 15300 now for just over 3 months. A few days after pick up i noticed a problem with date change and wanting everything perfect i decided to get it sent back to AP service to get sorted under warranty. Now before watch was sent off to service centre AD did the usual watch condition report which read AS NEW CONDITION no marks or dings anywhere which is no suprise as i prob had only worn watch on 5/6 occasions. A few days ago i received call from AD to say my watch was ready for me to collect. Report from AP says they had replaced a few parts and was now changing within tolerance . Well all seemed good until i put on my spectacles to inspect. Well what a disappointment firstly i noticed a mark on brushed part of bezel right next to one of the screw heads and also light marking around part of the polished edge of bezel and also on a couple of the screw heads i never took any pics of marks to bezel think i was in shock. Needless to say watch has now been returned to AP service so waiting to hear there explanation. How infuriating that it could be returned like this. Just not good enough from AP. KICKING myself now for sending it off to them wish i never bothered I know either way it will have to be resolved by AP but i find it so annoying how sloppy of them to not inspect the watch correctly before sending back to AD

It's really troubling that there have been a few recent posts about date change problems and out of spec time-keeping with the 15300/400.

My NIB 15300 has run 30 secs fast per day since the day I got it. Really unacceptable for a watch of this ilk. I bought it from a gray market dealer (NIB and fully sealed and tagged), but no warranty. I'll get it adjusted eventually when it goes in for service.

Still, with this latest story, I have to wonder what is going on at AP.

How come you don't have any warranty on it?

You're still okay the AD will take care of it. I had a same problem awhile back. I purchased at a watch store in Phila and they ruined the bezel of my RG RC and pretend nothing happened. They loosing me as their good customer since then.

I know this was a joke but seriously my pal dropped his Patek (on a carpet) whilst fastening the buckle and the thing was so girly and weedy that it broke and cost 3k to fix. I'd rather stick to AP.

Warranties are not issued through a gray market dealer. They sell surplus which AD was unable to sell for great prices, but with no warranty.

No, the warranty is not stamped.

When AD's have a surplus (because of slow sales) they need to off load their NIB inventory, so they sell it off to gray market dealers who have customers that will buy it NIB, but without warranty. If you look in the "For Sale" section on these forums almost all of those sellers are 'gray market' dealers who sell NIB items, but without a factory warranty. They are selling AD dealer surplus. The exact same stuff that AD sells, but because the AD couldn't move the items they pass it along to gray market sellers to take sell it off.

The deals can be very good, but you self-warranty. I have no issue with this (unless it is an ultra expensive item) because the watch is of such a high quality that it is very unlikely that there will be an issue and if there is, paying to service through the manufacturer is minimal relative to the cost savings (unless there is a catastrophic problem, which is pretty unheard of).

I think most of us understand how great dealers work. However, you're making some assumptions. All of the grey market pieces I've picked up are stamped and dated properly and thus warrantable.

Same here

As for the OP, that sucks. We've had more than a few of these types of incidents reported here past couple months. WTF?

I know most do know, but I was answering the question posed to me by FLB who said he did not.

I'd be most appreciative if you could let me know which gray market dealers are able to provide you with stamped papers. I've only bought 2 gray market pieces and in both cases the AD wouldn't go for it.
