Amazing sales pitch in the Caribbean

Whilst browsing for a RG lady datejust at a Colombian Emeralds store on Antigua

Amoung other "inaccuracies" the salesman spouted out trying to make a sale:

Price increases from Rolex every 2 months

Rolexes will never lose value

Buying a Rolex is an investment

This was my favorite though, he said...if you ever wanted to resell the watch or trade it in for another model, we could walk into any Rolex dealer in the world and receive back, in cash, the EXACT price we would pay the gentleman for the watch that day...

I just smiled, wrote down the reference my lady preferred and thanked him kindly for his time....

Thought y'all would appreciate this

Wow, that is horrible. I usually hit the islands the jewelry store will get me drunk (its bad when the owner knows me from roughly 2 trips every 3 years), we chat, and sometimes we'll get a little (or a lot) something.

I wouldn't be able to hold back on what they were saying though.

Amazing what they'll come out with

The flim-flam is not restricted to our watches though, today a friend of mine took her BMW into the local dealer because of a call-back to replace the ignition coil,
while she was there they also sold her a new set of tyres as hers were worn.

She questioned why they'd worn so quickly & the rep asked whether she checked the tyre pressure in psi or bar?

When she replied psi, the guy said "thats where you have the problem, you should always check the tyres using bar" , I kid you not

Oh, so true. We American divers can't dive with British tanks because they're measured in BAR. We'd drown for sure!

Exactly, how can we dive with only 200 bar in our tanks?

Well, if that Caribbean AD needs a new sales guy, I suppose I can find it in my heart to fly out there for 6 months to turn things around. The things I would do for this forum

Typically, you don't get a lot of repeat customers in vacation destination locations such as these. They're not worried about losing business with a sales pitch like that.

It sounds like a good pitch and I am sure it works. My brother-in-law picked one up in the islands last month.

LOL were you wearing your Rolex at the time?

If I were you, I would have showed them what I had on my wrist and asked them to purchase the watch back from me at MSRP.

Does Colombian Emeralds sell Rolex now? They don't sell Rolex in Barbados. The ladies at The Royal Shop are all pretty knowledgable.
