What do I need to know/do?
Just purchased my first this weekend, ExpII in 42. Sale lady never really gave me any insight into what I should or shouldn't do to/for my watch.
I wear it all the time with the exception to working in the yard or working out, so at most it will be off of me for 2-3hrs tops, so I take it I do not need to do any winding by hand... I sleep with it on too. As for service, as long as it runs well, I guess I am due up in about 5 years from now, any exact science/way to know when exactly I should go in for it? I know some of you have gone in after 3, some never. Just fill me in on some of the more common things one should know/do etc. Thanks |

Sounds like you're on the right track already. Give it a cleaning with hand soap, warm water and a soft toothbrush once a week or so paying special attention to getting grime and dirt out from between the bracelet links, otherwise wear it as you have outlined and enjoy. As far as service you'll get various opinions on this ranging from every five years religiously to never as long as it's running fine why mess with it. I, like most are at the in between camp that being every 5-8 years unless there is an apparent problem with your watch such as inaccurate time keeping or low power reserve. Welcome to TRF, you'll have numerous answers to your question in pretty short order, guys here are great!

Check the crown is screwed in properly every time you put it on...so many people I see have the crown half unscrewed!
Obviously, you do not want water getting inside the watch. |

Just enjoy it.
I don't get why people sleep with their watches on. Absolutely no reason - let your wrist 'breathe' Check out Veraet watch spray - google it. |

Many here swear by Veraet (I do) many don't see any difference between this and the soap and water method. I use both and will continue to do so. Rinse with warm water, scrub with dish soap and a soft toothbrush, pat dry then spray with Varet, another scrub with the soft brush, rinse and dry with a microfiber cloth. Sounds like a lot more work than it is but in all reality it only taked a couple of minutes. Be warned though a soap covered watch will be very slippery... Don't drop it!

Service is can be done every 5 years at least the min. Some here go longer or go by the rule if ain't broke don't fix it. If you wear the watch as much as you say it will not need to be wound. I wear my watches the same as you, never had one stop. Good luck and enjoy. Were always here if you have more questions and answered by more knowledge member then me !

Congrats!
Wind it 40-50 times per week, clean it once a week (soap/toothbrush) Have it pressure tested once a year, if you swim/dive/shower with it. And last but not least, ENJOY it!

Thanks for the replies.
I know there is no need to wear it 24/7, I just choose too. I feel if it is on me, can't get lost or broken, right? I do shower in it as well, always did with watches so I will be sure to keep an eye on the crown. I have always had luck with toothbrush and hand soap, not sure if I wanna venture to other cleaners just yet. Thanks again |

Congrats on the new watch. You picked a beauty Follow Padi's suggestions and you'll be fine. By the way you don't have to take it off when doing yard work.
