Once you have found the perfect watch...

...It gets harder to buy anything else...

When I say "Perfect" I am, of course, talking about that in regards to my own tastes and standards...

After all, one mans junk is another mans treasure...

It took me literally years to find, what was to my way of thinking, the perfect Matt Dial 666...
Perfectly matching dial and hand set in excellent condition
Faded insert with a nice amber pearl
An unpolished case that shows signs of use
In short, a nice untouched original example... And at a very fair price!!!

The problem now is that I will hold up any other watch I look at, to these high standards...

It's going to make watch "hunting" very tough from here on in...

Guess since they say the hunt is half the fun in vintage collecting, you are still way ahead inspite of the many years lost finding one:)

1. Me: "I found another watch I want to buy."
2. Wife: "You just bought a watch."
3. Me: "This one's perfect."
4. Wife: "That's what you said about the one last week."
5. Me: "Yeah but there's not another like this one in the WORLD."
6. Wife: "WHATEVER..."

Start again at number 1.

Clay, but how would you classify yourself??? A flipper, hoarder, collector, etc??

I am definitely a hoarder. I have only ever traded 2 Rolex watches and I regretted letting both of them go. I only did it in a "watch emergency" when I was short on cash and had found the PERFECT watch. Now, they are all to important to trade/sell. Only additions......no more watches going out

Good question...
I can't afford to be a collector or a hoarder...(As much as I would like to be...)
I don't think I would call myself a "flipper"...
I'm a great believer that you will never know if a watch is for you until you buy it, wear it and then sell it...
If it comes back, then it's a keeper...
I am slowly trying to get "THE PERFECT" examples of a few references that I like...
But it's a long slow process...But there in lies the fun
