Rory Mciory leave AP for Omega

any one is not familiar with who Rory is, he is a darn good golfer at age 23-24. He won both the US Open and the PGA championship once and is now currently world no. 2 behind Tiger.
I read the news on his facebook yesterday. I believe Omega should have paid him millions for him to make this change. As I understand the sponsorship is business, if I am in Rory's shoes, I just feel sad for wearing an AP ROO 44mm yesterday and to a Omega speedmaster today. Not that I do not like Omega, but they are just not in the same category.

any fellow members feel a similar way?

anyway, birthday coming up and hope i could save enough to tap the nautilus category!!

I wonder which watch he will wear.

Personally I would only leave AP to be sponsored by Patek and they don't do that.

I doubt he's really into his watches if this is what he's doing. I wouldn't miss out on the chance to wear a platinum RO to wear any Omega.

Saying that I'm not really into cars and if Ferrari paid me £100k a year to drive their cars and BMW offered me a million to move to them, then I would take it. I doubt he's a big watch fan.

Think of it this way, he could use the extra million to purchase a bunch of APs for personal use...and still have the extra cash to himself!

So.......Rory changed golf club sponsor to Nike for megabucks and immediately loses then world no. 1 ranking.

Now he's changing watch sponsor from AP to Omega he probably won't be able to face looking at his watch to check the time.....expecting him to start missing his tee times!

If he is in to watches at all, I'm sure he'll keep a couple of APs "behind the scenes".

Its about the money. He would have APs for private use.

Or Maybe AP are changing their marketing strategy? Reducing their sponsorships?

Exactly. It has nothing to do with the brand or which he likes better. It's all about the money and contract that comes with it.

Daniel Craig is sponsored to wear Omega his movies and public events. I'm sure there are many days where he'd rather pull a nice Vintage Rolex from his personal collection to keep the tradition of Bond wearing a Rolex.

We don't know the whole story. Maybe AP was dropping him and Omega grabbed him before Rolex. Like Tiger. Rolex had him first. When Rolex dropped him he went to Tag Heuer now he is back at Rolex. It's all marketing. Just like McQueen. He wore a Heuer for the money. Same if BMW had him and now he is with Cadillac, but he really drives a Bentley.

Not suprising, I gave up on that site long ago. I had several of their moderators on my ignore list for their rude and offensive behavior toward some of my posts.

It's all about the $$$$. I'd make the switch in a heartbeat as well if Swatch Group was offering me millions more. Take that extra $$$$ and by myself a beautiful personal AP collection. ;) Who wouldn't?

Especially at his age. He could never win again and live off his Nike deal, no problem.

We like and choose watches as an accessory and tool.
These guys wear them because it's they're job, so whoever pays the bills.
Rossi sucked ass for two years with Ducati, the hand built luxury blah, blah, blah. First race on a Yamaha, 2nd place podium finish, doing faster laps than anyone on the track.

Barbara Broccoli bought Craig a Vintage Sub when he finished his first Bond.

They are really losing the plot with all of those so-called Ambassadors. It's diluting the brand in my opinion. The Speedmaster is fast becoming a joke for all of the LE's, AP risks doing the same with celeb endorsement.

Rolex is a successful brand on marketing. This week's masters, even though you do not care about the sports. you still get to see the floods of adv on tv and magazines. the ads are also smart and well produced.

i am ok with the ambassador advertising for the brand, it plays as a part of the whole campaign. but AP need to consolidate its Ambassador, 1 in every major sports is enough.. i dun think the newly recruited golfers really could represent and bring in more business for AP while Rory has an impact on younger crowd and could bring the brand into another market segment

If someone paid me to wear their watch, I would! However, what I wear in the privacy of my home is my business.
