Another Daytona to AP RO thread...

Hi everyone,

I never thought this would happen but I'm slowly being drawn into the Royal Oak models, particularly the 15300 and/or the 15400.

I have half a mind to flip my SS Black Daytona for one, and wanted to get some thoughts on this. I always thought that AP was a "fad" type of watch, but after reading up on its history I have come to respect the brand, and the Royal Oak line (I've yet to warm up to the Offshore models, I find them too chunky for my wrist).

My current Rolex collection consists of the Daytona, an Exp 1 39mm and an Explorer 2 40mm. I have several other watches from other brands that I consider "iconic" watches from that particular brand.

The thing is, would it make good sense to flip my Daytona for the RO? My justification is that I already have two Rolexes, and, I guess at this point in time, I'm aiming for more variety in my collection. I'm also thinking that if the Royal Oak doesn't work for me in the long run, I could always flip it again.

In terms of whether I like it enough, yes, I do, I have no problems with the octagonal design, and I don't think that at 41 or 39mm that it would look that showy or fashionable on the wrist.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated...

Thanks!

Having owned (previously) a black SS Daytona and an AP 15300 RO (currently), I must say that the AP is in a different league. It's a peice of art. I think you should go for it! Make sure you get the right size though. I find that the 15300 wears a little large and is equivalent to the Rolex 40mms.

You won't be sorry. I flipped my Daytona for the 15300 and haven't looked back. AP has actually gotten me quite smitten. Get while the gettin' is good!

I just started my research on AP after being fortunate enough to own a couple Omega, a Pam and a Rolex in my current collection.

You mentioned the AP is in a different league, do you mind expanding on that and tell us why it is in a different league? Is it because of the more labor intensive hand finishing or its craftsmanship?

Much appreciated in advance!

AP is Haute Horlogerie and part of the holy trinity of watchmaking. AP's craftsmanship, limited production at 26,000 watches a year across all their lines, handmade watches, precision and exclusivity. Should I add anything else?

Flip it. I traded a TT DJII towards my first AP. no regrets and now I'm selling off more rolex and panerai to fund more APs. Totally different league and really enjoy not seeing the brand on multiple people on the street every day.

Go for it Clarence! I did the same thing, Got myself a 15300 but I still have the SS white daytona. Still thinking whether to sell the daytona or not. The Royal Oak is is on another level. Fellow PWC'er!

I have both the 15400 and SS black Daytona, would definitely NOT flip Daytona for the AP. Other watches yes, but don't flip the Daytona.

No comparison IMO. The RO is a league ahead. Actually more appropriate to compare the AP Chrono to the Daytona.

Thanks! Do you mean that the 39mm wears larger than its size, as a Rolex Oyster case would?

Yes the 15300 is larger looking than the 39mm it states. You have to try it on to see.

if you won't miss the chrono function, then, yes, by all means! although, as said above, maybe consider flipping the two explorers + cash to have a KILLER pair.

In this picture, Daytona is a bit better looking compared to RO. If I were you, I'll keep the Daytona.

*Just my 2 cents

The Daytona is an icon in itself, but to me the Royal Oak is top shelf.

Thanks for all the replies! I can certainly live without the chrono function for now...with regards to the Explorers, I don't think I could part with them yet...

This is what I am aiming for, adding a 15400 to my Daytona. If I were you I would not do it.

Fair enough but personally I would and then keep the Dayt. 15300 wears like a 41mm so that will suit you better, 400 wears like a 42/3mm.
