Is It Normal?
Is it normal to get 2 Rolexes in 3 days, or is it a "Rolex thing"?
After picking up my grail '69 birth year Sub on Wednesday, now I will receive another piece, GMT II tomorrow. Am I the only one, or do you guys do this kind of things regularly? Any information will help to make me feel better Capt. Serdal

If you take a look at many of the RF members then we are all sick in the head. As long as you dont buy them with money that you dont have its all good. We all need to enjoy certain guilty pleasures God gives us. IMHO.

I am sure its normal for some. However, I find it kinda strange that you bought another watch 2 days after buying your "Grail" watch....
Maybe it didn't wow you as much as expected. Regardless congrats on the new additions!

Some of may be lucky enough to buy Rolex watches within days of one another.
I would guess the many more of us have to wait a little longer to save up the necessary funds.

There have been occasions where I bought a great watch and gone years without another purchase. Then there have been times when, in a fairly short time span, I bought a couple, almost as if I was on a roll...as if the acquisition of one only seemed to whet my appetite for another.
For example, after several years without a watch purchase, last year I went into an AD and looked at an Explorer 2 (the old model) and the new Explorer 1 (the 39mm). Liked them both about equally. Bought the Explorer 2 knowing that it had been discontinued, whereas the other watch was current production and would remain readily available. Also, the white dial of the Explorer 2 was novel. Despite being quite happy with that Explorer 2, I still wanted the Explorer 1. of course, gorgeous pictures on TRF didnt help! Within a month I decided to buy the Explorer 1 at an AD that offered financing (a down payment, then 12 months to pay it off with 0 interest). Like you, I questioned my own actions at the time. I'd never bought two Rolexes in such a short timeframe. But, I had the resources to buy both...and both watches have been very satisfying to own and use, and will be for years. I'm not a watch flipper. So, a year later, I'm glad (and fortunate) to own two very fine such watches. Given the cost, it is something to be careful about, but you're not the only lunatic! If, after the GMT, you're still on the prowl for a watch, and it would not be a good move financially, consider avoiding the forum and AD browsing for awhile, and focus instead on what you already have. Congratulations on your new watches. Hope they being you lasting pleasure... |

Dear Comrades, thank you very much for sharing my happiness and for your very sweet and kind words.
In fact, 3 days apart getting two Rolexes is really very short time, but I have a weakness: When I see a timepiece I like, I don't want to wait then lose it. I am a bit impatient, and I missed several fine watches in the past because I didn't act fast enough. And both of these purchases were partially trades. One of the trades involved my GMT II Coke. And now, I am on the hunt for another Coke. Go, figure . . . ;-) I will start another thread when I receive the GMT II Black today (Monday). Again, thank you all very much for sharing my happiness, very best regards . . . Capt. Serdal

+100, as long as you're not causing financial difficulty to yourself I would't worry about it.

You're not alone; the great (maybe not for the wallet) thing about TRF is that it is incredibly easy and convenient to purchase great timepieces from trusted fellows. The only hesitation aside from funds is whether it will actually look good on your wrist.

2011 was my deliberate and probably slightly excessive watch buying year when I bought 16 watches including 5 Rolex's (Smurf and Red Sub included) and yet I felt perfectly normal and with like-minded and very understanding guys and gals on TRF......
In fact, in relative terms, I was still just "learning to walk" compared to some members on TRF..... mentioning no names Ken..... |
