Zenith

Zenith have introduced their new, ultimate flagship model, the Grande Class Traveler Répétition Minutes. Only 3 will be made each year, where a computer draws 3 lucky buyers from the waiting list. One from Europe, one from the Americas and one from Asia. The watch is the most complicated production watch to date, sporting 744 parts and 46 functions. Zenith are very particular about the ‘production’ statement because it will be just that: production. Other watches with countless complications have been made but these are usually one offs, this type isn’t. It is a regular production model. Well, regular. The price for this beauty is: US$ 617,000. And there already is a waiting list! I will try to post a scan tomorrow. I just read this in an article from a Dutch watch magazine. Perhaps it is old news to some of you. 617 grand!

It makes you think how they can justify $626,000 plus for a wrist watch. Know doubt a fine mechanical movement with lots of complications. But way way out of the average working man reach and mine, myself don't like the dial, looks to crowded in middle.

Thanks mate, I can't come up with a better picture like yours. The justification lies in the waiting list. I think wealthy collectors who just want all these kind of watches in their collection. Or absolute twits who have way too much cash. I think this forum can help with that problem

Well 100% agree Frans but it does nothing for me at all, in fact I think its ugly.I would sooner invest if I had that kind
of money,in some fine single malt. And a harem of fine Asian ladies to pour it for me,at least I would die with a very contented smile on my face. :thumbsup :

How about a list of what all the complications are? I can't imagine needing more than perhaps time, day, date, another timezone and a chrono. Moon phase is nice, but unless you can match it to your wife's um, cycle, it really doesn't serve a purpose (unless you're an astronomer).

Any complication beyond that is a horologist's wet dream, IMO.

Here goes: Hours, minutes, seconds (at 9), big date, flyback chronograph with 30 minute counter (at 3), minute repeater with alarm (chime and vibration), second timezone. It has 3 powerreserve meters (1 for the movement, 1 for the alarm and one for the minute repeater), 22k white gold rotor, 44 mm case, saphire front and back and a small saphire window in de side of the case to be able to see the small hammers for the chime, waterproof to 50 meters. Rose or white gold case.

Just this for 617K? No moon phase, no perpetual calendar....

They had to try and keep the cost down hence only a 22Kt instead of a 24Kt gold rotor.

I guess 24 K gold would be too soft....I've seen a 22 K rotor on a PP which had a see through back.....stunning!!

But do any of you actually like the watch, regardles of the price? I can't say I do, sorry. Too crowded, too many buttons and I would propably break it in half an hour. Plus: I'm too dumb to understand the inch thick manual

Not is it only too much money for me, I also think it's too busy. Probably just for the collectors. Maybe I'm wrong but I can't picture anyone really wearing it.

If I am ever that stupid to pay over half a million bucks for a watch(which hopefully I never will be) it's not like I'm going to wear the thing. With my luck it would probably break within a few days and the service bill would probably be as much as a SS Daytona.
