First AP will be a 15300 - Silver or Blue?
I'm sure you have all heard this story before but I come from years of Rolex and Panerai and had the chance to try on a friend's Jumbo. It has somehow burned it's way in to my mind and I can't seem to get rid of it. His piece is the 40th 15202ST.OO.1240ST.01.
If I'm totally honest, the 15300 is a more palatable way for me to move in to the world of AP based on the price difference between the 15300 and the 15202. I've run across two opportunities to pick up a 15300 one of which has the silver dial and the other has the blue dial. Two questions for you: 1. Will the 15300 feel as magical as the 15202 did? (No watches near me to try on.) 2. Would you choose the SILVER dial or the BLUE dial? These threads usually drive me crazy because the answer is clearly "which ever one speaks to you". The issue is they are both speaking to me and I would like to know which is more popular with you AP experts. Thanks!

No idea how the 15300 would compare to the 15202 as I have never tried the 15202. From reviews I have read, they wear very differently.
I found the blue dial to be a bit flat and underwhelming, but that's all just personal preference, as I prefer a bit more pop. Here is mine: ![]() |

Hi Peter
The 15300 has a little more wrist presence than the 15202. The 15300 is a little thicker and the bracelet is also thicker, it gives the watch somehow a different look. The 3120 movement is a nice one but the 15202 based on the JLC 2121 is a work of art and super thin. 2 similar watches when simply looking at it but in details, different in many ways. I have a white dial 15300 and simply love it. I strongly recommend you try them on before making a decision. You will then have a feeling of the one signing the most to you. |

To me, 15202 is the RO. Simply no substitute.
15300 and 15400 are new interpretations of the original. They are thicker, bigger, beefier, look and wear more modernised. They are perfectly fine watches on their own. The blue dial is more special to me, although the white dial is more versatile to match any apparel. |

If I had to choose between the two dial colors, I'd go silver/white. I feel it's more versatile.
As for 15300 vs 15202, I like the 15300 because its a bit thicker, and I like having a sweep second hand. Oh and not to mention its quite a bit cheaper as well. The 15202 however is an absolute classic so you can't go wrong there |

Congrats on moving foward with AP!
![]() 15300 definately wears differently than the 15202. Thicker and feels sportier. Neither of which is a bad thing. It will not disappoint. Blue vs white is a common dilemma - so that's really just personal preference. Both look amazing! |

When I first wanted to buy my RO, I was looking for the blue dial thinking it is the classic color and nicer. However, as there's no stock available for the blue dial, I settled for the white dial instead. Now if I have to buy again, I will choose the white dial again.

I'm in Minnesota too - no ADs and no one ever has any AP's to try on or handle...So I've been in the same boat. I prefer the white dial on 15300. Just to throw a wrinkle at you... If you have a larger wrist or prefer a larger watch you may also want to entertain a 15400. The "white" or "silver" dial is really unique. Kindda depends on what you are after. |

Thanks SO MUCH for the insight and thoughtful replies everyone!!! The pics are KILLING me!
![]() ![]() ![]() I'm still struggling with it but taking solace in the fact that the 15300 is a beautiful machine no bater what color the dial is. I was really drawn to the historically correct 40th 15202 with the 2121 and the AP at the 6. The contrasting date wheel may make the difference...but I love them both. Incidentally, I see a pic above with a black or blue date wheel and a blue dial. Was this done for you by AP? - Peter

That would be the blue 15400, not the 300, with darker datewheel.
I would choose the white dial over the blue. |

![]() You're point is a great one which is one of the reason's I'm looking to get in to a 15300 vs. the 15400. My wrist is 6.5 inches and the 39mm 15202 I tried was just perfect!
