Dial tries to imitate a Mark III. Papers and full set seems to be there to make it look "convincing", but I don't like the way the lume plots look. Unevenly dark and puffy. In a Mark III they should be flat. Same with the hands. They seem darkened by artificial means. In the set, outer box is not what it should be, and I have my doubts about the inner box as well. I'd pass pass pass, and pass.
Did I say I would pass? Cheers! :-) |

Also, the red looks, well, too red. It's usually a little more subdued from age, like on this dial, a 5-mil. version also from 1977.

Flat as in the dial plots should be almost even with the dial itself and not raised at all? Thank you. I am a newbie who is very intrigued.

Yes I think 70+ year lume should be flat, not raised from the dial. Older ones (on other Rolexes) may exhibit raised/puffy lumes. But from what I know 70+ onwards the lume should be flat with the dial.
I agree on the red, WAY TOO FRESH, either it's repainted or it's not an original dial.

The watch is an obvious "complete set" fake. I'm still wondering if the OP (1st post in the Forum )wanted to show us for us to point out the weaknesses before he pitches it around...... Just wondering.

Thx man now I will look out for such inconsistency. Such as raised plots. They are not strictly in the sense of the word raised at all and should be level.

I am a genuine Rolex enthusiast BUT l have only bought new ones... I have just sold my deepsea to fund a vintage Rolex, I was looking in vain to find a nice (ORIGINAL) 1680 case dated '69 at a reasonable price? do any of you guys know of one for sale?? and I came across this double red -obviously too good to be true...... Again thanks for all your guidance, regards, Dave. |

Another dealer asked me about this watch this week. Said it was a nice cheap set. This is what I told him. IMHO The whole watch is put together to fool somebody. Fake Dial. Look at the hand engraving in the case back numbers. Are the numbers laser engraved on the case? Etc Etc. RUN DONT WALK
Here it is on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ROLEX-1977-V...p2047675.l2557

A friend from Germany wanted to verify authenticity with me for this watch
and I told him that it looks "Created" So before this 1665 appeared here at TRF I wrote to the owner (ebay ID englishtacca Leicestershire, United Kingdom) expressing my concerns with his watch on auction at e-Bay....and this is what he wrote me: Dear tempoking The dial is not aftermarket and am getting little fed up of Rolex "experts" Seems the more experts you ask the more different opinions you get. I have my own experts ex-Bexley Kent service centre who have inspected entire watch. Somebody else told me movement not correct . . somebody else the plexi By all means don't persue your interest but I KNOW is correct. This watch has also been ratified by London auction house BONHAMS Really am all stocked up here on Rolex experts. The DRSD may well be sold anyway . . to another expert who has looked at the lume and dial under infrared light. Nothing more for me to say... ![]() |

Well, to elaborate on this fake DRSD, look at the case backs. First one is a real case back of roughly _ and allegedly _ the same age (end of serial number is intentionally blurred out), and the second one is fake. The style of the engravings of the numbers is clearly different. Sure, there are sometimes subtle variations of Rolex engravings through the decades, but these case backs are supposed to be very close in age and the differences are too great. And there are other obvious differences in these backs, too. Shameful that the seller is still insisting it's a real DRSD, with all this other BS about it being verified. Scary stuff. Just another reason to be so, so, so careful with these vintage pieces as the prices skyrocket.

It's a nightmare out there has I have just found out regarding the DRSD, Minefield!! ![]() Does any one know of a 'genuine' red sub for sale around £10k???? Cheers, Dave. |

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=180461 Sure, there are occasionally good deals to be had on Ebay, and some nice folks sell great watches there at times, but there are also many crooks selling on Ebay. Especially for high-end pieces, I'd stick to reputable sellers elsewhere. Good luck in your search! |

These people are not ignorant

When this highly desirable model of great demand is offered far below its true market-value, be wary and run miles away or consult the forum, before opening your wallet. The same can be said about the mod ref 1680. The original ones are not cheap, by any measure. |

Pure garbage...All the more reason people need to be quite careful out there. Price can't be one's first consideration--watch and seller must be!

Consult before committing
Quote:
The population of authentic vintage-watches will eventually diminish albeit slowly. When this happens, frankens and fakes will flood the market, to cater for those new-comers who will just pick up anything, blindly. It is advisable, those who are new to this pastime follow the example of the OP and that is to first consult the forum or read books before buying any so-called factory-original vintage-watch. As days go by, it will become more and more difficult for us to tell apart, between a genuine vintage-watch and another that is either a franken or downright fake. |

Well, since you posted this photo and since we're on the topic of fake DRSDs ... can you also post a photo of the Rolex papers that you say authenticate this watch? I obsessed over the DRSD recently, and saw hundreds of photos, but I never saw a Tiffany-dial DRSD with the "Tiffany" printed like that. Just curious. Thanks.
