done flipping and what ive learned in the process

I think im finally satisfied with my collection. Here is what i have learned about MY collecting preferences:

1. 40mm is as big as i'll go w my 6.5in. wrists. Even the newer "maxi" cases listed as 40mm are too much for me and forget about Panerai, i love the deisgn elements but on my frame they just look cartoonish.

2.PCL's dont do it for me. If i want flashy, ill wear gold or AP.

3. Classic design is classic for a reason. What ive ended up with as keepers include a pepsi GMT2, JLC reverso, AP Royal Oak 15300 and Exp 36mm...all timeless designs that work.

4. In house is a must. an outsourced, mass produced ETA movement in a luxury watch just doesnt sit well with me. are they high quality? sure. might some consider rolex movements mass produced? probably. thats just how i feel

hopefully these thoughts might save some others a few trips to fedex

Ill take some in the sunlight in the morning (USA EST).

some other thoughts....with the great trusted sellers around here its just TOO easy to order watches from my computer. They are literally here the next day....i need to be a little more deliberate with my moves in the future.

I'm with you on some of those points. Isn't it a shame when there is a watch you love but it's just too big for your wrist? Maybe it keeps us from buying more, though.

I totally agree with this one; see a watch, make the call, send the wire and it's at your door the next day. Waaayyy too easy!

Yes!!! But for having stick wrists, I would already own:

Longines Legend Diver
Rolex Milgauss GV
Nomos Club
etc, etc, etc...

I wonder, pretty often, if I'll ever be fulfilled with my collection at some point. This wonderful hobby/habit can be alarmingly addictive and expensive. Good to know there are people out there experiencing satisfaction.

I agree with you 100% on 1 thru 3,

As for non in-house movements, I personally feel that if Rolex is fine with putting them in their watches (Tudor) then I'm good with it!

If you are really done collecting, you better stop visiting this forum. We are all just a bunch of codependent enablers. I would bet if the right watch came by at the right price,........well you know.

I think you've reached a point of satisfaction that few watchaholics will experience, including myself.
They're just too many watches and for a lot of us, a finite amount of watch funds.
I prefer to have a Submariner in a collection, as I think that is one of the most classic watches. With that said, IMO, one has to choose a watch more with their heart than what they think should be included in a collection. For example, I agree the Reverso is a true classic, but don't love it enough compared to a Royal Oak. The RO just sings to me.
As far as in house movements, that is not a requirement as long as the company is well known for their quality; many IWC and Panerai have ETA movements. The top end ETA's are proven workhorses and relatively inexpensive to service and repair (especially compared to a Patek or AP).
A Calatrava would be a classic for a dress watch.
And, another vote to see some pics of your wonderful collection.

I agree with everything you say, and my two Rolex watches are in your collection, so we are in sync. Love that reverso, too. What is the watch at the lower right in your photo?

Hey, how come that watch in your avatar isn't set to 4:20?
