If it needs a battery ....

If your watch really does needs a battery, I may have some bad news for you.

Rolex made just a few quartz (battery) watches over the years but I'm thinking the Day-Dates have only ever been mechanical watches (?) .... so you may have a fake there. On a positive note though, you may have a genuine, mechanical Rolex that has stopped working and needs a service to breath some life back into it.

Please post some nice clear macro pics of your watch and tell us any reference numbers that you can see and we can tell you what you have.
The reference numbers will be located between the lugs, top and bottom of the watch - where the strap or bracelet fits to the watch case

I am almost postive that rolex made an oysterquartz day-date at some point unless it was simply a mechanical day-date that had the same shape as the oysterquartz...

Whoops. Sorry for scaring you OP .....

The original post has now gone but the OP was seeking advice re. a new crown and battery needed for an early Day-Date they had inherited (1960's era they thought).

I was unaware that Rolex made quartz Day-dates but I now see that they certainly did. Always learning !.

Lots of knowledge among the crew on this forum so I'd still suggest the OP posts pics and reference numbers.
Someone will quickly identify what exactly they have and may also be able to direct them to a competent Rolex tech. in their area.
Always interesting too when the less common stuff pops up

Model 19018 is a beauty as is the much coveted white gold 19019. However, as another member has said no such animal existed in the 60's.

It's a shame that the original poster didn't stick around..

It may have been beneficial to him for the Forum to see and know exactly what Rolex (if it was indeed a Rolex) that was in question..

Early Rolex Oyster Quartz watches are nice to have and increasing in value every day..

As far as I know, Rolex case out with Beta 21 powered watch in 1971 or so, and then few years late (1975 or so - I do not remember seeing any with less than 4 mil serial) they started to produce 19xxx, 17xxx quartz watches. Besides 19018 and 19019, there were versions with pyramid dial and bracelets.

+1. And a movement will cost EUR 1.000 if the old one can't be serviced any more.
