Any thoughts on an AP RO Jubliee

I'm looking at an AP Royal Oak Jubliee as my 1st AP. Anyone care to share some thoughts on this edition?

Here's an image of the model I'm looking at. Not the actual watch; this is a google image result for the reference.

Jubilee? Looks like a 5402 jumbo. Nice watch, I have the same watch with the first series dial with the ap above 6. Make sure you have solid service history and a recent service by ap as it can cost $$$$.

Ok, a quick google tells me it a 14802, issued 20 years after the original 5402. Seems to be the same watch and prob also pretty much the same as the 15202 jumbo. If the price an condition is right and it's serviced then go for it.

I'm not an AP expert but I have heard some horror stories of "vintage" APs needing some expensive servicing if they hadn't been treated well. I would want evidence of the service history and wouldn't touch it if it had been serviced by independents. Very sharp looking watch but just like buying a vintage (or any) Ferrari, if it had been serviced by some rookie with a bunch of aftermarket parts, you may end up with a much more expensive toy on your hands than you initially planned for.

Good luck with your search!

Yes, recent service by ap is very important on any used ap and more so on vintage. My 5402 service was a few thousand usd and I wouldn't call this a 'horror story'.
