Rolex Dealer question
Hi
I am just hoping for some advice on vintage Rolex watches, if I go into an approved dealer will they be able to tell me if everything is genuine on a few watches. Do they know or would they have to send it out? if they can what should be the charge be for a service like this. |

I have found that most dealers know very little about current models let alone vintage Rolex watches...
Not much help I know but there it is... |

Yes, that is the experience that I have had, lets see if others are of the same thought.

They're generally pretty useless tbh.
99% of them are essentially just salesmen rather than enthusiasts. In that regard you can't really expect them to know any more about past models than you would a car salesman. You hear stories of ADs sending beautifully aged vintages watches off to Rolex, and Rolex then sending back horrible shiny pieces of contemporary looking nastiness. :-( |

I'd actually start by posting good quality images here, including dial macros. Possibly you can get a watchmaker to open up the case for you for movement pics

Most sales people will know nothing about vintage pieces and will most likely look down on them. They make $$$ selling new pieces. I have another thread in the other section telling a story about how I was in an AD the other day and one of the sales ladies told me my 1803 was fake because it didn't have the quick set feature. I wasn't in there to authenticate my watch, I just wanted a minor adjustment to the band. I let her have it and walked out never to return to that AD again.

Hmmmm it seems that most have a problem with dealers.
When I am reunited with my watches I will post here, unfortunately they are 2,500 miles away in a safety deposit box, the only safe place while I am away. |

I agree with anyone but I find it hard to believe that there are not some enthusiasts that work for Rolex LOL
It is so much easier to sell if you have enthusiasm and a true love of what they are selling. Perhaps Rolex dealers should be staffed by forum members Ha Ha |

I told one of them a while back I was thinking of buying the 50th anniversary LV instead of the new Hulk she was trying to sell me and she laughed and said that "those are 100% impossible to find anywhere". She wasn't talking about NIB from an AD, she meant impossible to buy preowned anywhere.

They are mostly franchise Jewelry Stores and make their money selling jewelry, not Rolex or any other watch on display.. The Rolex display at the back is to get you into the store to walk past the stuff they make a living selling.
