Thoughts on trading my MF 5513 for an SD
My 1967 5513 is simply an awesome piece. I mostly wear my new Daytona to work but outside of that, the 5513 gets all the wrist time. I do everything with this watch - fish, camp, carpentry, cook, and everything in between. Very comfortable on my small wrist. In 90 days, it gained a total of 15 seconds!
Not having a date though for something that gets this much wrist time has always bugged the hell out of me, even though I could easily look up the date on computers or phones. A friend of mind has an F-series SD and we have made a tentative trade agreement (plus small cash from me). Yes, I could keep the 5513 and buy an SD, but a 2-watch rotation is my sweet spot after buying/selling many watches. I have a feeling I might regret it and it would be hard to replace down the line, whereas I can pick up an SD any day. Thoughts or similar experience? Sorry for a bad pic that doesn't do justice for this beauty. |

That 5513 is a beauty! I wouldn't be able to part with it if it were mine, but that is just my opinion. It would be a little extra $$, but have you looked into a 1665? That could give you the vintage look and feel but with the date. Good luck with your decision

I'd keep the 5513 in this case... However, for a 1665 Rail Dial (+ cash from your end), I'd make the trade!

Hey Bob,
you know how i love that 5513... i personally think that you will regret it the fact that is doesn't have the date is what makes it so beautiful and clean ! look at your smartphone in the morning, check the date, remember it for the rest of the day and enjoy this beauty... |

I think the only way to find out what you really love is to get rid of it and then see if you miss it...
There are always other 5513s out there... |

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts and personal experiences. It sounds like those who have done it have regreted it, and that's what I was afraid of. Thanks for keeping me straight.

You guys are great Robby, I did check today's date this morning, and yes I'll remember it all day long. I suppose it's better to know it and not need it than need it and not know it. |

Really, trading that beautiful Sub just for the date function?! No way, not for that reason. I've said this before, and have never heard why people don't like it, but ... why not just set the bezel on a non-date Sub to the date? That's what I do, and it works great. Guess what day it is in this photo. Yup, the 17th!

I was close in trading my 67 5513 with a ghost bezel insert. I spoke to two close friends. They both said to keep the 5513 and thats what I did.

I tried on a 1977 SD today and found it to be large and too bulky for my taste, it's quite a step up in heft compaired to a 5513. My 5513 fits me perfectly so I wouldn't trade...
