Omega deserves an A+ for customer service

I recently acquired an Omega Seamaster GMT. Anyway several weeks ago I wrote a letter to Omega Customer Service.

Yesterday, I got a surprise in the mail.

An A4 envelope all the way from Switzerland and it cost over 5 Euros, those Euros are expensive too

Omega were kind enough to send me an original of the COSC testing results on an authentic COSC sealed certificate. The certificate was presented in a clear plastic sleeve and with a backing card, so it arrived in mint condition all the way to the bottom of Down Under

It is a bit difficult to actually work out how good the results were in comparison to other movements, but they look pretty good to my untrained eyes.

Anyway, it is an outstanding jesture of customer service for Omega to do this without charge. It does add a great compliment to the watch especially for the enthusiast.

I'm sure that if another company put there mind to it, they could somehow also do this for their enthusiasts, particularly as the 'credit card' lacks the imprimatur of an 'official certification with actual testing results'.

Sorry the pics are a bit small, I unintentionally made them so But I send a BIG thank you to Omega for their kindness and quality of customer service.

I obtained my certificate by making e-mail and telephone contact with Omega, the contact details are on the Omega web-site.

Phil, that's great, notice how my certificate says OMEGA SA BIENNE and yours says OMEGA. Wonder why

Hey, I want my money back, how come you get the extra bits Odd, maybe it's because mine is two years old or something, same address though. Anyway, great thing to have. Very hard to decipher, but it does look good and I am sure we will work it out eventually.

Good one, Steve. Yes, in this respect OMEGA is tops!!

I had the COSC certificates with all my previous OMEGA Chronometers. And when I sold them, the certificate helped to enhance the asking price!!

I, too, have the paper work from COSC. Nice extra that Omega provdides. Of course my Seamaster GMT (white) still isn't back from its warranty service. It has only been since September 20.

My cards are open, as I bought grey market. Steve, was yours originally an AD watch? I may be out of luck, but I'll ask anyways.

The documentation is nice however I don't think it makes up for having to wait over 3 months to get a watch back from warranty service. That is totally unacceptable

Sorry to hear that as I'm considering a Speedmaster purchase, is Omega aftersales service that bad worldwide?

My friend who manages a big name mall AD tells all of his Omega buyers that they can expect at least a three month turn around when sending to their RCS.

I just emailed them as well for both my SMP Chrono as well as my GMT 50... I'll scan and post when they arrive!

So, I am wondering, is it possible to get the COSC print out from Rolex, would love to get one for my 85 GMT Master but perhaps they dont keep records for that long.

I have heard nothing good about the service wait times from Omega, which are completely unacceptable from my point of view. Apparently it's a lack of skilled watchmakers. But Rolex can do it, so why not Omega.

Vukota, in the US, you can pick up a new GMT for 1800.00 USD from an AD if you shop carefully. In the mall jewelers it will cost you $2500. E-mail me if you need a recommendation .

Paulie, if you don't have the AD's stamp they will not give you the certificate.

I have heard the criticism of Omega's SC as well but is it not mostly for people with the co-axial movements? The people I have spoken with and read about that had long wait times were the ones who had issues with their 33xx based movements as Omega had/has issues with that particular movement.
What are the experiences of our members?

It is a GMT that I can thoroughly recommend. It is around US$2,000 but you might be able to get it for around $1,500 on the internet. This GMT will grow on you, and it is as you can see very accurate.

I bought my white Seamaster GMT in 12/05 for $1500. It retailed for $2200 or so at that time. It is not the co-axial, and I am going on four months in the shop. Fortunately I purchased my Exp.II at that time so I still know what time it is. What day is another story. At the Ben Bridge in Scottsdale they have a watchmaker who is fully qualified to work on the Omega as well as Rolex. Unfortunately the Seamaster was still under warranty so had to go to their RCS. I agree the problem is that Omega has far too few people to service their watches.
